Hoping to carry the AR for the last weekend of deer season up here. First weekend I'll be in a slug gun only area, but hope to move further north for the season ending.

My AR's a PSA with a 1 in 7 twist barrel, and open sights. Can anyone suggest some factory loads to try for accuracy in this gun? I just picked up a box of Fiocchii 55 gr. PSP to try. Plenty of time to play with loads. Anybody got a good suggestion. Factory ammo only-I'm not set up for reloading.

Anything loaded by Cor-Bon, Grizzly, Underwood or Double Tap with the 55 gr TSX/TTSX.

Your 1/7 and you have time.

Find and try some 62 to 77 gr.

Your 1/7 so they should work extra good.

77's are hard to find in factory but go to a local gun store and see if they will look up what their distributor has. Then get him to order you a box or two.

Factory in 55 are out in the market by the millions. A few 62's can be found, 68's get hard to find.
Get on the internet and find some. Try them.

Hornady 55gr VMAX is an accurate factory load as is the 75gr Hornady Match load.

Fusion. For hunting. Accuracy should be more than good enough in my experience. End of search?

I was hoping for some Fusion this morning but I couldn't find any. That's next on the "try" list.

Whinchester 64 grainers.

I recently bought two boxes of the Fusion 62 grain to try in my 1/8 twist Ruger AR556. It was in stock at both Dunham's and Academy Sports - might check there if you have either chain.

I have shot at least a hundred pigs with Barnes 62 grainer's. They kill cshit out of them. We have hit 200 lb pigs in the shoulders. It goes all the way through.

How about the 75 gr. Speer Gold Dot from PSA at $12.99 per box?

These seem to be marketed as a law enforcement load, but a 75 grain bonded bullet should make a decent hunting load for medium game, and the price is right.

Any thoughts?

I bought some of these a few weeks ago, but I haven't shot any yet. Before buying them I did some Internet searches, and there are some good reviews online. One guy on various AR forums compared their accuracy to Fusion and Fusion MSR loads, and the Speer ammo was accurate.

If you had time to reload I would suggest the following:

60gr NPT
CCI 400 primer
Case full of IMR4895.

It's shot well in every AR I've tried it in.

Thanks for the reloading info. I won't be doing it this fall. So far, the most accurate load I've found is some Fiocchii 55 grain loads. It's good enough to hunt with for sure, but hope to try at least 4-5 more loads before deer season. 'Going to try some heavier loads to see how they shoot. Also hoping to get a scope on top of this within the next three weeks here. Debating weather to go with a traditional hunting scope or a tactical scope, or setting up one of each in seperate mounts.

I've shot Speer 62 Grain Gold Dots and found them to be reasonably accurate in several AR's. I'll probably get some 75's, now that I see they have them in stock, and try them too. I have a couple hundred 55's but haven't had a chance to try them yet.

I have been happily killing hogs for years, with a 64 grain Winchester SP over h335 powder. It's not a 'glamour' load, but it works every time.

Haven't tried the 223 Gold Dot yet but the 6.8 version in 90 gr is a killer. See no reason the 75 gr 223 version wouldn't work

someone else told me the 62 grain fusion was good, I have killed them with Swift 75 grain Scirocco's and 62 grain TSX's, I like the copper bullets better, but the bonded bullets are ok, they do kill. I also killed them with a 85 grain TSX in a 6.8 again if you shoot the deer in the shoulder with any reasonable bullet its not going anywhere. This year the load is 62 grain TTSX.

Hdy Match 75HPBT. It kills deer and hogs very well.

Sierra 65 GK BTSP and H4895 powder is accurate in my Colt AR with 1 in 7" twist. TAC powder does almost as well.

I'll have to second this one! It's a Silver State Armory offering.

Also at Powder Valley is the 64gr bonded ammo from Silver State Armory, which is owned my Nosler. I shot two boxes of this and wish I had bought all that was on the shelf. Very accurate in two different 1:8 twist rifles.

Pick a bullet for deer, not gophers.

The 64 gr Speer gold dot kills with authority. We have killed numerous hogs and I have seen it blow through both shoulders of a doe. Any of the bonded or solids should work.

shoot a bullet whose weight is in the 3 digits... maybe something in say... 308!!!! i should have been shooting the trusty old dpms here.

couldn't close the deal on the herd but picked off a few stragglers on the way back.

Did you really need that much lead? And the runner was hit in the hind quarter so I don't figure a heavier bullet would've done much better but...

apparently i needed more lead! i figure the bigger the bullet the more chance a hind quarter shot might slow him down.

i'm going to see if i can kill some tonight. i'm glad i don't have a hunting problem like i used to.

i built my AR-15 to Bushmaster.450. It is a new build, and just now dialed in on targets. I'll let you know how it did after my first kill with it.

The WW 64 grain power point kills well too.
Took my nephew spotlighting hogs at the Ranch one night last week and he killed 3 running in a pack of 4. Two heart shots and one in the head. They were all over 100 lbs each.
I was pretty proud of his shooting with my heavy barrel AR-15 in .556.
He was using the Factory Winchester .223 64 grain Power Point load.

I killed a 225 lb pig at 200yds with a 62 grain Barnes last weekend. Punched through both shoulders. He was dead where he stood.
