A U.S. Navy sailor is under investigation for refusing to stand for the national anthem. Intelligence Specialist 2nd Class Janaye Ervin, a reservist stationed at Pearl Harbor, posted on Facebook about why she's following in the footsteps of Colin Kaepernick and others who have demonstrated against police brutality during the anthem. "I feel like a hypocrite singing about the 'land of the free' when I know that only applies to some Americans," she wrote. "I will gladly stand again, when ALL AMERICANS are afforded the same freedom." Ervin says she lost her security clearance and was threatened with jail by the Navy in response to her actions.

If she weren't "Free" she wouldn't have been allowed to join the Navy in the first place. If she weren't "Free" she would have been forced into the service as only a Mess Cook or Steward. If she weren't "Free" she could never have gotten enough education to be an Intelligence Specialist. Apparently she needs some remedial education on what slavery really is and some pointed lessons in the opportunities that have truly been afforded both her and minorities in general. She also apparently needs a lesson on what she's supposed to be doing as an intelligence specialist in the United States Navy. Specifically defending the constitution so that others are afforded the same opportunities.
She should be given the lessons and then the opportunity to change her view point. If she doesn't, then it's an Other Than Honorable or a Bad Conduct Discharge, and See Ya!

Its big difference what rights a civilian has and what a service member can do, especially while in uniform.
Of course its a kinder gentler military now, sho who knows hows things will pan out.
