Let's see what you guys have got, or are doing. I'm a positive guy, but the rain is negatively effecting me ! Rained all weekend here & we are getting 20mm today & another 10mm tonight. Spent the 2nd weekend, in a row, working on our basement storage. This used to be our wood room, before we switched to high efficiency propane.

I have a similar set up in our basement. We store our canned garden produce and meats, potatoes, onions, squash, and fermenting sauerkraut down there.
What do you have in mind to store down there?

Cab,
Yep, pretty much what we plan to do, along with some of our larger, less used kitchen appliances. Wine, beer & sodas as well.
Basically, any thing in bulk. Stocks, sauces, pasta etc !

I was wondering Paul, how you found space that was not already "used"? In our case, all that junk we don't seem to think we can live without fills just about every space!
Years back, I thought of building an old time root cellar, but I doubt at my stage of life it will happen.

Hi Richard,
The space used to be used to store wood, in the basement, for our old wood furnace. Switched to high efficiency propane furnace 2 years ago. Finally got around to moving the 2 remaining cords of seasoned birch, out & stored it on pallets, under our side deck.
This left a 16 x 10 x 8 space.
The cool room is 8 feet deep x 6 wide x 8 high. I'll be sheeting in the top & adding a light fixture soon, then we'll worry about whether we want to enclose the front & add a door.
What worries me now, is that I now have a 10 x 10 x 8 "room" that I'm sure Deb is going to want to do something with !
We'll also be doing a "cleanout" come spring, as like you, we seem to have "crap" everywhere. That is only after 11 years of arriving here, with 2 suitcase each + 1/2 a freighted seacan !
Paul.

My place in NorCal 30 years ago had a full basement that I partially finished. One area under the stairs that led to the back yard was finished as yours and held hundreds of bottles of California red wine. Mine and my friends. We had neck hangers on all of them, dated, rated and rotated as needed and we all shared in the delight. Your room reminds me very much of that room that I left 20 years ago. Nice job.
