Hello Gents,
I am wanting to add a few custom touches to a new 700 I'm messing around with. I would like to have the bolt spiral fluted. I also have a takeoff LVSF stock. I'd like the grip and part of the forearm textured with something like grey marine-tex and then painted a satin finish OD green.
I'm thinking some of the guys on the board do this kind of stuff, but couldn't remember who and wanted to see who y'all recommend. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Russell

Can't help on the stock work but for the bolt flute I'd send it to Karl @ Kampfeld Customs. Nice guy to deal with and quick turn around time, usually have it back in a little over a week, price is good as well. Work is always perfect!!

I would add pro precision rifles to the bolt and barrel fluting mix.. Their price is great, turn around fantastic and honestly I can't tell even the slightest diff in quality versus my Kamp fluted bolts.

Thanks for the replies y'all. Kampfeld is the one I was thinking of but couldn't remember. Thank you for the alternate suggestion also, Strick.
Now I just need to find someone to texture and paint this stock. Could probably do it myself, but I'd prefer to have a more professional job done on it.
Thanks again, Russell

Karl just finished some custom work on my H.S. lightweight 7mm-08...bolt fluting, skeletonized all of the bottom metal, also did the bolt handle and trigger guard...and he cerakoted it all. The guy took awhile for this one--which I told him wasn't a problem--and his work is stellar. He's the best there is, and I'm glad he lives two hours from me now.

Genuinely curious... what is the purpose of fluting a bolt?
Weight? Appearance?
Does it allow gunk into the action that might otherwise be blocked?
Always wondered never asked. It sure looks cool; like barrel fluting.
Thanks,
Efw

Probably took a little longer in that it's left-handed. The guy took awhile for this one--which I told him wasn't a problem--and his work is stellar.
I never thought I'd grow up to be a grumpy old man, but I did, and I'm killin' it.

I've had a customer tell me he'd never do it again due to dirt/crap that gets down into the magazine via the flutes.. FWIW..

He has done all of that for me as well. I think some stuff is only done on an individual basis according to how busy he is.
I miss walking around Karl's place and messing with all the builds lying around. He had a 100 yard indoor/underground tunnel to shoot from in his basement. Pretty cool. He is also the one who got me into the sporting club I have belonged to for 6-7 years now. Karl is a damn good shot, and a good guy.....
