I inherited this model 70 and don't know anything about it. I tried posting on the Winchester Collectors sight but don't know if it worked or not. Its a 257 Roberts

Looks like a USRAC commerative ("Collector Issue" Winchester Arms Collectors Association" to be exact) XTR fwt chambered in 257 Roberts to me. If I had to venture a guess at a date of manufacture, it would probably be 1982 or so. I'll take a wild guess and say the serial # range is pretty close to 162xxxx-180xxxx. Let me know how close I am...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

box says so. as the sling swivels like a SG and I'm pretty sure the floor plate says so. I'll have to look at it again tomorrow.

I'll have to check the serial number. Its a Super Grade also. What makes you think its a Super Grade???? I left that out of my first post. It is a supergrade.. I ran across an auction site that sold 2 of these rifles in NIB condition with boxes for $1700.00 for the pair. That sale was back in 2010...

Good googling skills my brother. That about sums it up. I was close on the serial #, but according to the Winchester manufacture date sheet, it would be 1982, not 1985 as the seller suggests. I guess since it is a custom shop gun, it can fall out of the serial # range to be made in 1985...

People can ask whatever they want for things. I have a lot more confidence in completed sales for trying to get an ideal of a rifle's value. I don't think this guy will get anything close to his asking price. Someone wise once told me "Anything with a product name that includes the word 'collectible' or 'collector' is neither." It may not be an absolute rule, but it has generally proven itself to be very good advice.

Guess my Dad stumbled into something rare. I have to remember to put the sling back into the box. Guy wants $5000. Don't see that happening, I'd take $4950 for mine.

Like I said before, I've seen them sell for about $850.00 each or $1,700.00 for 2 LNIB examples..... I highly doubt anyone is going to sell a rifle like that for even half your "taking" price... I'm assuming I was pretty fu cking close on the serial number too....
