GREAT rifle and caliber. I have two, a 340 and a 257. Very happy with them. They are heavy though. If that is a concern, check out the Ultralights.

..............I concur. Have a 338-378 Accumark. Accumarks look great, accurate and are a little on the heavier side. But as with everything, there are always going to be tradeoffs.

A 30-378 Accumark that is a nail driver. A 257 in a Mark V that is also extremely accurate. I'd speculate the combination would be quite deadly.

Don't have an Accumark; but shoot .257 Wby in a Browning B-78. Excellent round.

Accurate but heavy and clumsy. I much prefer the vanguard with the shorter barrel.

I picked up a used safe queen yesterday in 300 wby . Steel floorplate , HS precision stock , Honed action and if it was shot it was not much at all. The HS stock is much much nicer then the B&C stock models . A friend has the same rifle from Saco in the same cartridge and he would not trade it for anything . He has his pick of any rifle since he is a gun dealer and that is his choice.

I owned an Accumark in 7mm wby and it was a tack driver. It would pile everything into one tiny ragged hole all day long. For my style of hunting, which includes some stalking and hiking to stands, it was too heavy. I've owned a couple 257 wbys, the current one being an ultralight. To me, it's the perfect marriage of rifle and caliber. My Ultralight is accurate enough, posting groups between .47 & about .75 with factory and handloads. Better than I'd hoped for. When I do load development and zeroing, I fire 3 rounds as fast as I can cycle the bolt and settle back in. Conventional wisdom is to let it cool between shots but I have found I can get 3 accurate shots downrange before the barrel fully heats up. I then let it cool and go at it again. Nor sure what your purpose is but the ultralight in 257 makes a nice all around deer rifle

I have had 257 in an Accumark. 257 is a great cartridge and the Accumark a great platform but I don't feel the two go together. The Accumark is too heavy and the action too big for the small case. Accumarks are for 300 bee and up imho. You could also probably build a 257 bee on a sucks et al that weighs way less and shoots better for around the same cash.

Have or have had accumarks in 300 bee, 30-378, 338 lm and 338-378.

PS. I really wish wby would make an ultra light on the 6 lug action in 257 bee. I would absolutely buy one.

I don't believe the 6 lug action is of sufficient diameter for the belted 257 case.

I like the .257 Wby a lot. I have a markV deluxe. In my mind it's probably best suited to an Ultralightweight since it doesn't have much recoil. That would make a nice carry rifle.

I have a accumark in 270wby. Great shooter but the rifle too heavy for me for most of my hunting.

Ok y'all talked me out of it. I have a model 700 cdl sf in 257 wby and like it a lot. Ran accross a Accumark 257 in a pawn shop with a Leupold vxII 3x9x50 scope looks like new for 850.00 plus tax the reason for asking.

Before you pass that up have you seen what used Accumarks go for ? What is wrong with the Accumark at the Pawn shop?

I don't see anything wrong with it. It looks barely used but has been there for a while. If it stays til after hunting season I may rethink this.

I say go for it, I have a Vanguard stainless in .257 that I restocked in a B&C Medalist and love it. I once shot a 2.5 inch group with it on steel at 447 yards with 120 grain Nosler Partitions. Awesome caliber!

The Mark V action is a bit heavier but I am actually kind of partial to it. The 54 degree bolt rotation makes for slick bolt work and no scope interference whatsoever. I have two Mark V's, one is a late seventies production Deluxe in .300 Roy and the other is a much later Fibermark in the same caliber [.300]. Both are more than accurate enough, the Deluxe shoots 3/4 and the Fibermark shoots half MOA. I am a big fan of Weatherby rifles and their design.
