Looking for suggestions for a fairly mild load for my daughter to shoot in a model 7 .243. I'm thinking 3000 fps?
I have 4350, RL-15, and Big Game on hand, but can get pretty much anything locally.
Thanks in advance.

41.5 IMR 4350 +/- has been a balanced load, and accurate, with 80, 90, and 100 grain bullets in the 243 I've been playing with.

38.5 Varget produces excellent accuracy and probably 3300 FPS. 300 FPS difference will be very little in recoil, but can produce better accuracy sometimes than a reduced load. Plus slightly flatter and more energy.
That bullet is awesome on everything from turkeys to coyotes to deer. Never have recovered one bullet, and that includes a few double shoulder or quartering shots.

41.5 grains H4350 with the 80 TTSX worked great for my son back when he was 10 or 11. He practiced with the reduced load H4895/70 NBT combo and then the TTSX combo was no big deal.

39.5 grains imr 3031 for a avg velocity of 3282 fps. 215 primer and 2.24" oal. Maybe not a "light" load but with that 80 grain bullet there's hardly any recoil.

If ya wanna go domestic and old school.... work up to 42.5 grains of 4064....that will get you to 3400 fps neighborhoods, depending upon barrel length... In the 55 to 85 grain bullet arena, IMR 4064 is often over looked... due to being around for a couple 4 decades or more... and if your 243 won't shoot 4064... then that 243 has accuracy issues to begin with... and even at times, 4064 like SR 4759 will clean that up stretching the old barrel life out...

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I've got her practicing with 10 gr of Trail Boss and a 70 gr NBT. Shoots 1 hole groups so it's great for her confidence. The gun is currently dialed in with 80 gr GMX Superperformance factory loads and my plan is to simply swap out for hunting and she will never know the difference. I was concerned those would be a little hot for her (both noise and recoil, though I barely feel it, but I'm not 8). Pretty sure I won't have time to work up a new load before our next hunt. Will the recoil between 3000 fps and 3400 really be much different?

The blast difference between 10 grains of Trail Boss and 40something grains of whatever Hornady stuffs in there might not go unnoticed.

My nosler book and Hornady book both show a max between 38 and 39 grains with 80 gr cup and core bullets. Hornady online shows a max of 36 with a GMX. Barnes doesn't have data online for 4064. I'm not trying to get max velocity. I'd be happy at 3000-3200. Anybody else use 4064 and 80 gr ttsx? Edit to add: I found several old topics here using google and several of you guys were using 41 and 41.5 grains of 4064 with excellent results. I guess I'll work up to 38 or 39 and see what happens.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I will continue to work up a load next spring after season is over, but I think for now the factory Hornadys will work just fine. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/11652760/Re:_Daughter's_first_deer_(my_#Post11652760
