I have a walnut/blue Ruger MkII chambered in 300RSAUM and like it a lot. Always wished I had grabbed a 7SAUM in a Model 7 before they were gone.

Now I have a hankering for a 6.5 in a short action, and am tempted to fall for a 260 in Model 7 stainless or perhaps the 6.5 Creedmore, but keep hoping that the 6.5SAUM will be introduced as a factory chambering in something like a M700 Mountain or Ti.

Why don't you talk to Remington about this, though they will probably not give you any information?

Have you considered a 6.5x284? Factory ammunition is--or was--available from Norma.

Does the big Green R even chamber for the 6.5 CM ?

It wants an Intermediate length magazine to accomodate those 6.5 VLDs properly. Same issues as the .260 really.

You might be able to do something with the Custom Shop for a few $$$
Remington is known for twisting the 6.5s too slow.

The 6.5-284 is a long action chambering, that has developed a reputation for short barrel life, mostly due to throat erosion. This is exacerbated by the .284s short neck.

If you don't mind wildcatting, I'd turn it into a 6.5 SS(Sherman Shortmag). Or a 7 SS, for that matter.

6.5-284 certainly a possible. Irritating how Remington doesn't support their cartridges... i don't even think they load ammo for the 300RSAUM any more... all ten loads available at Midway are Nosler... for Nosler to be offering ten loads, someone has to be using the 300RSAUM. grin.

I love my Model Seven 7 SAUM. I contacted Remington about their brass availability. They said that they are a loaded ammo company first and foremost. And that they would release brass as they gain a surplus. They then claimed that they still offered factory ammo for that cartridge. I asked them where I could find some of it, cause I haven't been able to find it. They said that they had no way of knowing where it was. Lol

Some time ago I read that pretty much all of the brass and primers we get for reloading from the ammo makers is what's left after they fill their orders. I'm sure there are exceptions, but that's the general rule. They'd rather sell high-profit ammo than brass. It's always risky to jump on the new cartridge bandwagon, especially when the round isn't based on a common case type.

I would doubt seriously they would ever consider 6.5 saum as a production chambering. Not saying it would never happen but highly unlikely.

If you want a short action 6.5 I would pursue a 260 rem, 6.5 creedmoor or the like. I am afraid you would grow moss waiting on a 6.5 saum. And I think think a 6.5 saum would be a great cartridge offering but just don't see it.

I don't believe the SAUM series has been a great success for Remington; I doubt they'll ever be a factory 6.5 SAUM.

Build your own 6.5SAUM on a 3" action such as the Win70 or Ruger77.

Bingo - 3" mag is the key with the 6.5s, maybe not even enough for the most VLD 140's

Sure is tempting for Medium to Long range hunting.

I don't know about factory, but GA precision appears to have a good grasp of the cartridge,plus hornady is making the brass. There are a handful of gun smiths reaming barrels to the 6.5 saum frequently. Everybody I know with a 6.5 SAUM will not part with it,I had a semi custom 6.5 creedmoor built a few years ago and I remember people saying a 6.5 whaaat...Now, creedmoor is common to the guys holding up gun counters. My last full custom was a 300 saum, so I think a 6.5 saum could catch on with enough of us "loonies".

Wonder what the mag length is on a Tikka T3 .270WSM..

To the best of my knowledge, all Tikkas are a long action. Why the fascination with the short action? I have never understood that.. Several 6.5's that will do whatever, but for the most part are a long action cartridge. If you want magazine restrictions then get a short action. If you want bullet selection light to heavy, then you need the longer action. 6.5's for the most part is a rather long bullet not friendly to short cases and magazine lengths.

Yes T3's have long actions..
But my question is will their .270WSM DM handle a COAL of 3.00" or close to it..
If they do, then for me that would be the way to go for a fairly lwt. hunting rifle..
Cheaper than a Kimber, lighter than a M70 or R77..

Don't know on the length, but a few guys have done a 6.5 SAUM on a T3. Seems to work well...

The AW mags let you seat out to 2.96 I believe. No problem with the Templar short action that GAP uses, which is pretty much a Defiance Rebel action.

I haven't had any issues with mag length in my Model Seven. I load to 2.80" with great accuracy. However, I don't care to shoot bullets that need to be close to the lands.
