9 day gun deer season began November 19th windy with gusts in the 40 mph range. Every camp member except for the cook was on a stand. First time in camp history no deer were shot opening day. The deer were definitely hunkered down. Some of the bucks shot throughout the season. Results of a couple Wisconsin deer drives. The exuberant fellow who shot the large buck said: "whackem and stackem". Sighted in my Marlin 336 30-30 with new to me, Hornady American Whitetail 150 gr InterLock. Works great...110 yards from hilltop down to valley floor. Buck was sneaking ahead of a drive. Missed the spine got lungs and broke right leg humerus. Made a 60 yard dash angling towards me, but died before I could see to shoot again.

Great bucks for sure.
Only 9 days? How long is muzzleloader season ? 7 days and I was out chasing deer since this last Monday. There is a four-day antlerless only Dec 8-11. Plus, there is a holiday hunt Dec 24 to Jan 01 in certain counties.

Excellent. If you don't mind me asking, how many acres are you guys hunting?
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Each buck looks better than the previous one, all great deer. Looks like you've got quite a group of hunters hunting out of a picturesque camp in beautiful country. Congrats to one and all.

I hunted WI for the first time this year. It was so cold opening morning in Burnett county with the wind. I had a nice young buck come by at 830 so I drilled him with my Remington 700 SPS .270 with 130 grain Corelokts. It was awesome getting back in the truck to warm up. My friend got a nearly identical deer from the same stand on Sunday. I will be back in future years.

Congrats on the buck. Did you see or hear wolves while there?
A couple buddies and I hunted ruffed grouse in Burnett County this fall and heard wolves, seen a lot of scat, but did not see any.

Wisconsin has some very good deer, but getting onto the land land they live on is not easy. It used to be, if the land wasn't posted, you could hunt the land. Still the way it should be.
