Drop Point Hunter

I used acid to force a patina and a very unique hamon showed up so I left it.

I actually like the way this one turned out, I am working on the funds for a big boy grinder but am learning the quirks of the Crapsman 2x42

Blade length 4.5" total knife length 8.75"
Primary bevel taken to .010" before sharpening

The profile of your micarta handle looks as though it would fit the hand very well. Nice looking knife, I like a utilitarian look to my using knives.

Thanks, I tried to keep the handle contour subtle but useful. I have a 4" wheel and feel a larger wheel would work better.

I use this Frost knife for skinning and general camp chores. No disappointments.

Andrew,

You do nice work! I have the same 2x42 Craftsman and it is certainly a treat to work on! I had a line on a nice 2hp vfd grinder and waited a little too long, the seller decided to keep it.

What are you looking at for your Big Boy machine?

I have been going back and forth between several models. Esteem and Pheer are both made in Oregon and I could drive to pick them up.

I am also considering the KMG from Beaumont Metal Works

And the AMK

For me, variable speed would be nice but I would really like a flat platen, contact wheel for contouring handles and a small wheel attachment for the small radius stuff. I'll probably change my mind a dozen or more times before settling in on one.

OH, how many times I have been sorry for not going with the variable speed option.
Also any attachment should be quick change over or just say no. Long set up time for short run time is not good.

When I get a "real" grinder it will have variable speed. I hate the single, high speed of the crapsman. I do a lot of handle work with a Rigid 3x18 held in a vise.
