Just buy a PAST recoil shield for the bench. I've never felt the recoil of my 1976 760 aught six in the field. Very Good. Probably much cheaper too. Jerry

Found a 760 carbine in a schitty ought six. anyone download the kicking SOB to 300 savage speeds with success?
second question anyone make their own carbine out of a donor 300 savage, 243, or 308? Bobby I've made carbines out of a couple. What I've noticed is accuracy improves! Makes for quick handling. Chop that '06 and go with reduced loads to about 300Sav levels. Best of both worlds. Paul

Had to resurrect this thread, one of the best ones on here. Just read through the whole thing. I've been looking for a pristine 760 in .35 Remington for a long time. Missed the one on here that Magmarc told me about because I was in Florida last year. Don't want to talk prematurely, BUT, my son has a line on one. It is in a shop, upstairs on a repair rack. Apparently had a minor repair done and has sat on the rack for 4 years or so. They finally contacted the owners and they don't want it, and we have first crack at it. That's all I know, hopefully will know more next week. If I am fortunate enough to get it, these Weaver Pivot rings and base are going on it. And the next thing I'll be searching for is an old school El Paso Weaver low power scope with Post and cross hair recticle. Not that I'll use the iron sights because they are blurry to me nowadays, but this pivot mount is the epitome of coolness as far as I am concerned. I will post when I learn more, hopefully this coming week. ![[Linked Image]](http://i67.tinypic.com/2regx9e.jpg) wink_man I have those mounts on several of my 760/7600's, even my old 870 slug gun has them. Never had an issue with them returning to zero. And, yes, I'm 'old school'  I recently picked up a 760 in 300Sav with an El Paso Weaver 2.5X with post reticle in Weaver pivots. Haven't had much time to play with it yet. Pretty cool old rifle--bought it from the original owner.

paul that 06 carbine wasnt very slick. felt like it was binding or something i passed on it. if in your travels u find a 308 carbine holler at me

Bobby 'Twas just in need of a little lubrication of the "O" ring in the slide. Common situation with old 760's and an easy fix. I'll keep my eyes open for a .308 carbine for ya. Lots of gun shows coming up. How about a 35Rem? They are the schitze in a carbine. Easy on your shoulder but devastating on a deer's shoulder.  Paul

On the hunt for a .35 rem or .300 sav myself. Proly cut to carbine (maybe just get a Grice .35 rem........they pop up on GB once in a while).
Not against an older 760 in .35 (prefer the last run stuff with 7600 wood though). Will bolt on synth to bash around anyway.
Read someplace one could change the front hardware to take the 7600 forend. Wonder what all parts needed?
Might just get the old style, slap new synth buttstock and pain the old forend to match. Cheap n easy.

But the .308 in the 760/7600 kicks me like a f'n mule for some reason.
