I've been watching the posts about Dick's, Whitakers and other stores and their deals around Howas, Tikkas, Rem Model 7's, etc. I've got a few friends/relatives who are interested in either getting into, or expanding their, hunting, and they invariably ask "What's the most value for the money?" I tend to steer them toward Tikkas, Vanguard/Howas, or, in a recent case, the Browning AB3. I haven't--for right or wrong--gone the route of the Ruger American or Rem 783.
So, when you line up features (including breadth of chamberings) & accuracy again cost, which brands win?

I have to premise this by saying I haven't owned a ton of rifles. I'm a huge Sako 85 fan, but when I saw how well my buddy's Tikka T3 shot, and for the price they go for, I can't possibly imagine a better value.

I would say the close out T3's. I honestly think they shoot better than Sako on average. You have the same barrel and a stiffer action.

One that seems often overlooked is the T/C venture. Two guys I work with have them, one in .243 and one in .308 and they're both extemely accurate. Right in there pitching with my Tikka for accuracy. I've seen the .308 shoot 100 yd. cloverleafs with my own eyes and the .243 isn't far behind.

I'm a big fan of the Weatherby Vanguards. All three we've had have been accurate. Plus they just feel like a real rifle, much more than the Ruger American, Savage Axis, and others of that ilk. The Vanguard costs a bit more but is well worth it in my opinion.

I really don't see how you can beat T 3.
If S S is important I love my T3 SS Lite. I've had it since 2003, killed ALOTTA deer, NO hitches, even STILL using stock rings.
There are cheaper rifles but for accuracy Out of the Box, can't beat Tikka.

Tikka and then savage for second... Hard to beat either one when it comes to price and out of the box accuracy...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Question on the Tikka T3x (any model): Is it offered in 6.5 CM?

Tikka T3 in stainless.
Then add: -Quality scope of your choice -Talley rings -If a heavy kicker, add a pre-fit limbsaver recoil pad.
Works good, last long time.

The European equivalent to SAMMI which is CIP had to approve the cartridge which has been done. The former rifle product manager ( Carrie) for Beretta USA had this done in early spring in 2016. Kimber hired her away to become their centerfire rifle manager in early summer which is why Kimber is now offering the 6.5 Creed. Doc

You can cover a lot of ground for a very reasonable price with the Savage Axis.

Best value. Savage 10/11 series. You can get their package series with a useful Nikon scope for around $500. They are running a $75 rebate right now. Savage will shoot right there with a Tikka and in the unlikely event you ever need customer service, you can get it with Savage. Savage is a US company feeding US families and playing an active role in the preservation of 2A. The OP mentioned variety of calibers. Yep, Savage brings it. http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/11TROPHYHUNTERXP

If your talking straight budget gun, the best deals come off the used rack.
Most gun for the money(IMHO) would be the Savage/Nikon package mentioned above. Another good one would be the Mossberg/Vortex package rifles, I've seen walnut stocked ones in the $435 range. I know Mossberg doesn't get a lot of love around here, but the couple I've had the chance to shoot seemed accurate enough.

And they are made here. You can keep the Nikon scope though.

Sportsmans Warehouse has 10% off right now on almost all rifles. I had some time to kill yesterday so ended up in the gun section and walked out with a new Tikka T3x Superlite in 7MM-08. The new model does have a slightly nicer factory stock than the old T3, the grip are has some nice texture to it, the recoil pad is maybe a bit softer, the new metal bolt shroud is also nice. For the price at 10% off its a heck of a nice rifle, and I expect it will shoot as well as my other Superlite 7MM-08.
