Coyote_Hunter, I'm the kind of guy that scratches his itches and generally finds that doing so is very satisfying. If the scratch produces the desired results, I really don't care about some hypothetical sell price. Same here. My Weatherby is on the forth barrel. My Klienguenther is on its third.

Keep in mind there isn't much value in junk.
I'd say anything you'll buy and be proud to hand down to your kids after a lifetime of hunting with it. This^^^^^ Might add that cry once or a few times , you will be happy you did

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I recently read an article by I believe Terry Weinland about how he had purchased a nice custom Mauser nicely done but not necessarily by a known gunsmith for a fraction of what the work would cost today and how these type guns are fairly easy to find as they often don't reflect the current trends .

Guys I've read the whole thread.
We ALL have different opinions. They vary and sometime a whole LOT.
I 'think' the best value is the rifle YOU like/want, in the configuration YOU prefer, in the caliber(cartridge) YOU want, and AT the BEST price you can get it.
In yrs. past I have 'settled' and NEVER was satisfied till I got what I wanted. Value is MORE than a cheap price.
I no longer have ANY rifle that I am NOT happy with.(sorry Ingwe).

What pal said. My five bolt guns were made between 1938 and 1962. A collector would turn up his nose at three of them as not original, but as shooters, they are far ahead of current production.
You have to sift through a lot of junk, but they are there.
Best,
Jack
