Anyone getting over 2,700 fps with a 140 from a 22" bbl.?
I'm curious as really no online data shows over 2,700 from a 22" bbl. (when extrapolating from a 24" or longer bbl.).
For sure the 260 will get there with 22", but what have you found with the Creed?

I would be curious to see the real world speeds as well of the 140's in the Creedmoor.
In my current 260 Rem both IMR 7828ssc and H 4350 get 2675 fps with 140 gr Ballistic Tips from a 24" barrel. My original 260 did get a bit over 2700 fps from a 22" barrel but that was with R-P brass and IMR 4350. I like 130's these days though...........

Mid 2600s for me shooting 140 ELD-Ms. RL17 has been the best in terms of accuracy and velocity (2660 and consistent .5" 3-shot groups from RAP with 22"). Others tried include H4350 and RL16. Also, just over 2900 with 44.5 RL17 and a 125 Partition. Edit: more details 123 Scenar 44.5 RL17 = 2950 140 ELD-M 41.6 IMR 4451 2550 Factory 140 ELD-M 2635 Factory 120 GMX 2925 140 ELD-M 44 RL16 2750 and .8" (Hmmm, guess I need to follow up with this one.) I'll load up more around here and report back. Looking at notes, 42.5 of RL17 with 140 ELD-Ms was 2710. Just not as accurate as 41.5

Brad,
If I were going to try for at least 2700 from a 22" barrel, I'd try Hunter--and in fact plan on doing just that, as soon as there's time to try some loads in a 22" RAR Predator.
Western's data lists 45.3 grains as maximum for 2779 fps from a 24" barrel. My first Creedmoor was a Ruger Hawkeye with a 26" barrel, and with 45.0 grains it got 2845 fps with the 140 Berger VLD.
I'm guessing in a 22" barrel it would get 2750 or so.

Thanks gents, it's obviously possible then.
PRM, that RL16 data is interesting. I'm guessing 24" bbl as they don't say for sure.

Brad, I get 2770 with Amax and H4350 from a 24. 2750 out of the other 2 24's. Huntsman, ever used the Amaxs on elk? I'm playing with ELD-Ms right now but considering others for hunting. No shortage of good choices.

No shortage of good choices. You hit the nail with the fact there are lots of good choices. The A-max is not one of them for elk. The ELD-X may be OK, but there have been problems with jacket separation on elk. I would stay with Accubonds, Partitions, or monos for elk. There is no reason to shoot an elk with a target bullet.

Why not use the 143 ELD-X on elk? That's what it's made for.

Brad, The 140 Hornady factory A_Max in my 22" 6.5 Creed averaged 2630fps for 10 shots. 143 ELDX, 41.0 RL17, Fed GM210M averaged 2754fps

Out of my 22" barrel with 140 eld-m and h4350, the average velocity is 2735 fps using a labradar at 15 deg Celsius. I have a standard chamber and load to mag length (2.8"). I tweaked some variables in Quickload to match the actual results I'm getting in the field and it predicts a pressure of approx 61,000 psi. The brass has been used 10 times now, not all with same load, and no signs of a problem. I shot these bullets all summer because of good availability and decided to hunt with them as well after reading in one of Nathan Fosters books that the 140 Amax is a really good performer on game between 2750 and 1800 fps. I shot 1 mountain goat(100 yds) and 2 good sized november 4 pt muleys(60 yds & 20 yds) with them all by neck shots. I'm not sure if the eld-m is constructed the same as the Amax but it got the job done on these 3 neck shots. I will probably switch the 143 eld-x now that it is becoming more available just to be safe.

FWIW, I shot the 140 ELD-M again with RL16, and two shots at 43.5 registered 2727 and 2721 on my Magnetospeed. 22" barrel. A three shot group was .6".

I got avg velocity of a 2740 with 42 grain of RL17 and 140 Speer hot-cor from 22" RAP. Not sure if my chronograph is accurate though. I'm beginning to get suspicious of it. Accuracy was outstanding though!

Brad, RL16 update for you. Shot 140 Partitions and went up to 43.3 gn of RL16. Velocity was 2778 and three shot group was .43". To say I am pleased is an understatement.
I also shot 2x 140 ELD-Ms with RL 16 in 12-15 deg temps for 2749/2742. Then today shot the other two at 70deg and got 2749/2727.
