I have a Remington 700 adl in 30-06 sitting here. I changed jobs which caused some extra cash flow. As a fun project I want to build a sort of low buck custom by rebarreling and possibly restocking it.
Kicking around some ideas.
220 swift 2506 Ackley 6mm06 257 Bob 6mm rem
Etc.
Open to ideas. Varmints and possibly deer and for fun at the range

If you are having a tough time getting excited about something on the LA, you should sell it, bank the money, save your extra money you are making, and then get something you really want a little bit down the road.

8x57js, you could get a barrel from ER Shaw with 9.5:1 twist. The 8mm is pretty impressive when you load it to CIP PRESSURES ...and you don't see very many custom "Super 8"s around(that's a real shame). That being said, if I was building one for small stuff up to an occasional deer...I'd probably go with a Bob. Trust me, you'll like it, I wouldn't lie to you much. CowboyTim

Why would he want to sell the rifle when it's the basis of his project?

Yes I know what the 6.5x284 is. It's the barrel burner with impossible to find or afford brass

Why would he want to sell the rifle when it's the basis of his project? Turn on your brain and think about it a little. It's not rocket science.

I come here to be enabled and you guys start talking sensibly?!

Out of the choices you listed my vote is 220 swift 1/8 twist. Very fun and different, why build something you can buy?
2nd choice would be 6-06 again 1/8 twist.

Leaning 6mm Remington >>> or 6.5-06 I'd lean to the 6.5-06 due to action, bolt face + BCs. Jerry
