I have an '04 Honda Pilot with 78K miles on it, lately one of the valve lifters has been making tapping noises. This occurs frequently but not constantly, I was wondering about adding Marvel Mystery Oil at the next oil change. Has this worked to silence noisy lifter for you? If not what would you recommend?

I used to put that in my diesel fuel tank occasionally but never for noisy valves.

Try this stuff

I use Lucas products and never had an issue.

I'm not real familiar with Honda engines but last I checked they are not a hydraulic lifter setup.

They are solid lifter so clearance needs to be checked and adjusted. Oil additives etc won't do a thing for valves that are out of adjustment.

Check your manual to see if it's recommended at 50K or 100K miles or whatever.

A little valve noise isn't usually a problem. The saying goes "a tappy valve is a happy valve".

Correct. But, Marvel IS the best for sticky lifters. It will unstick them every time. It usually takes about 5000 miles but they will yield to Marvel.

I won't disagree with you.

In my experience though, lifters that are stuck are hydraulic, not solid.

They even have 710 caps!

If you take the time it takes, it takes less time.
