About ready for another maple season #11834031 02/17/17 Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 4,350 northern new york DANNYL OP Campfire Tracker OP DANNYL Campfire Tracker Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 4,350 northern new york Finished tapping tree's last night and we have around 3000 taps in. Vacuum is set up and we checked it today for leaks and seems to be all in order. Walking trough about 1.5' of snow wasn't easy but the 2 of us got it done in 3 days. Plenty of coffee and other beverages along with some sugarhouse meals makes it all worth it. Going to buy our jugs tomorrow and will hopefully beginning to fill orders soon. Will be posting pictures also.

I love real Maple syrup We sell the remainder in 42 gallon ss barrels. The price is set by Canada which we don't know until late march usually. This year we are going to have a barrel stored and we will bottle it up at a later date to fill orders. I had quite a few on here after we sold out but was able to get syrup from one of my other brothers to get to the customer.

First year using a reverse osmosis (RO) and this syrup going by the scale turned out to be delicate,light in color but very rich flavor. We run a little over 2000 gallons of sap through the RO yesterday.

Can be used in place of sugar or corn syrup in lots of recipes.

Yesterday being the first boil and I took plenty of pic's,plugged the card into the computer to find out none showed up. The center is using a new machine that removes more water from sap than older technology, saving maple syrup producers time and energy boiling sap into syrup. (AP Photo/Lisa Rathke) UNDERHILL, Vt. (AP) — Maple syrup doesn't get that rich flavor and color in an instant. It's a long process from tree to bottle. But improved technology could keep maple sugarers from working late into the night boiling sap into syrup. The new machine removes more water from sap, leaving it with higher sugar content. The concentrated sap takes half the time to boil into syrup. Dozens of producers in Vermont, New York, Maine and Wisconsin are now using the machines. A maple farm in New York expects to double its output with a new machine, arriving this week. But some traditional farmers wonder if faster is better, and the North American Maple Syrup Council is taking a closer look at the advanced technology. We have about 3500' of 1" mainline and over 35000' of tubing. Mostly on vacuum which bring it to the sugarhouse. Last edited by DANNYL; 02/26/17.

Buckets and taps. Most farms had a sugar bush ,where they would make syrup. A friends dad fabricated a big tub,at the paper mill so we could boil sap all night. Good times back then. We also took a trip to a sugar bush ,where on one side of the road they collected and boiled sap the old way ,with horses and buckets and on the other side of the road it was collected with tubes and collection tubs. You guys are missing out out ,on hot fresh syrup ,poured over snow and eaten!

If you open it and are going to be away for a time it can still be put in freezer. Maple syrup will not freeze into a solid,may get thick but will return to normal kind of quick once removed from freezer.
