Trump would say the yard is full of weeds that need killing where as MSM would parse it down to percentages of coverage are less than 15% weeds and what types of weeds they are. Trump communicates that the weeds need killing and leaves it to an expert to identify the weeds and the proper poisons. Trump doesn't get lost in the weeds !

Trump in this case was just echoing something he heard on Fox, so whether it was accurate or not depends on Fox and not Trump. And he didn't communicate that he was referring to crime rate as opposed to terror attacks at all. So claiming Trump was right after all is stretching it.

What I don't understand is why Trump gets simple facts wrong, such as his statement that he won more electoral votes than anyone else going back to Reagan. Given the resources of the Presidency he could have his staff check-up on anything he saw on TV or recalls and get the facts with near zero effort.

I don't think getting simple facts wrong gouges the media, but delights them. They ask gotcha questions trying to force Trump to error in hopes of showing his supporters how incompetent he is. It's not getting traction yet, but it eventually will, so why give the media free points by saying stuff without knowing the facts?
