Let's keep it to guns and ammo. This is for you, not necessarily others. You can have a reason and tell it or not. Maybe you don't like it just 'coz.
I'll start by saying that I'm a traditionalist and don't care for much of the new stuff. I'm not saying that it's not just as good or marginally better, I just don't care for it. I'll give you two examples. I love my 7x57. I don't want a 7-08, but I recommend them all the time to people looking for a deer rifle. Secondly I just can't use plastic tipped bullet in my 7x57. It just doesn't seem right. I'm also like that with my 30-06, although I do use them sometimes. It just doesn't seem right in a classic caliber/rifle to use a bullet with a plastic nose. I see nothing wrong with using them in my 280.
OK Here goes!
1. Plastic tips in classics. Just 'coz, tradition
2. Short & short-short magnums. just 'coz, tradition
3. Too small or too large calibers used on whitetails
3a. Magnums where they're not needed. I went on a doe hunt several years ago and the shots were at feeders about 75yds from the stand. I found a 300 RUM EMPTY brass. Amazing! Just 'coz
4. Mono bullets, I just can't like them even though MD says they're ok and I hold his opinion in the highest esteem. I think it's the tradition thing. Just 'coz, tradition

50mm+ objectives. I don't plan on taking a shot at the moon anytime soon, so why the Hubble with the extra high rings?

Idiots on ATVs during hunting season.

synthetic stocks on any gun. Stocks should be wood and the prettier the better.

Baiting for deer. Sitting in a heated blind looking over a pile of bait isn't hunting.

Paying $20.00 for a Doe tag, I do it several times a season though.

Youth deer seasons, multiple buck tags for the same state.

Indoor plumbing? smile

Yeah, but my feet are warm and I'm dry when it gets really cold down near freezing, 32% burrrrr

Sentimental is not the same as traditional!

Jerkoff hunters and shooters that leave trash wherever they camp and shoot. It's all litter but leaving a bunch of shotgun shells laying around gets me more than most

1 I will shoot plastics out of anything.
2 Short mags are ok, but I already have 7Rmag and 300 win
3 Caliber should be adequate for the game, not perfect shot dependant.
3a Too big may be foolish, but harmless.
4 Partitions have never left me down. Cup and core's kill most of my deer, and do it well. P.S. I don't need fancy bullets to make little guns perform, see #3 above.

A brand new rifle that takes tons of work to get a group less than two inches.

Just bought a new Ruger #1 that the fore end screw wouldn't even tighten. It would just sit there and turn. Fore end was loose. The barrel channel had a big gap on one side and was touching on the other. If your quality control is going to let that kind of garbage out, might as well close up shop as far as I'm concerned.

I have a very similar problem with the 25-06 and .270 because of some braggarts around here. They are always talking schit about their hunting prowess, but I happen to know too many true stories about how they hunt. Nothing wrong with either cartridge except Me listening to them too much for too long. miles

Muzzle brakes, especially right next to me at a shooting range.

Instead of putting on your Sunday best and attending church - putting on your best camo and going to Cabela's.

Using the word loose instead of lose.

Spelling it Creedmoore or Creedmore.

Advertisements as being the fastest cycling semi-auto shotgun.

People saying Vortex is great because of the warranty.

Not guns and ammo related per se but hard rock or heavy metal music (or death metal or thrash metal or any sub-genre) in hunting videos or general shooting videos is pretty annoying. That music has it's place but leave it out of the hunting vids, thanks.

On the other side, a thick mush mouf dialect in hunting videos seems a bit too affected. I grew up with Southern as my native tongue but really didn't know anyone who spoke that unintelligibly, even my backwoods uncles and cousins. Not all shooters have a thick generic accent and talk like they have a huge wad a' terbacky in their mouth. I've spoken to Brian Pearce at gunshows a few times and he's a back country Idaho boy if there ever was one but manages the English language without difficulty. Hickok45 is from Tennessee, is a retired English teacher and also speaks quite well, thank you.

Cheap crappy grips on new otherwise beautiful, upper level handguns.
Does the manufacturer automatically assume that the buyer will change the grips on them?

1. Pink camo gunstocks.

2. Blaring advertising stuff on guns, i.e. red decals on Benelli shotguns, "the Saint" emblazoned on Springfield Armory AR15s.

3. The whole "Zombie" advertising theme for guns and ammo.

4. The sales clerks at Gander Mountain.

5. Most articles in gun magazines, because they are just advertisements.

Other than lamb chops.......nothing really.

I have no use whatsoever for the 300 Blackout....not sure what its for.

On the plus side of that....CFE BLK is really good powder in my .221's! Lucky me! I am terribly thankful that the silly little 300 Blackout is popular.

1) The 270 Winchester.
2) Anything on or in a firearm that requires batteries.
3) Camo wallets, Camo flashlights,Camo toilet paper and especially Camo'd firearms. I also think putting small children in camo and letting them play outside, say before the age of 3, is asking for trouble. Spray painting your turkey gun is exempt.
4) People who don't wear the legal amount of hunter orange in a state that requires it. That's just begging for trouble.
5) Turkey rounds that exceed $2/round. My ire raises in direct proportion to the cost.
6) Anti-UV products for hunters. Don't get me started.
7) $30 rain suits sold as $300 scent-blocking suits. In fact anything that claims to manage scent.

1 agree totally. Plus anything ruger.
2 ok to have batteries.. makes varmints at night easier.
3 I don't use camo on purpose for anything anymore other than waterfowl. Even turkeys don't require it.
4I'm good with orange, though its not required here.
5 We can only shoot 4 turkeys here.. don't much care about the cost for 4 rounds. Especially if they pattern well enough to be lethal at 50-60 yards.
6I don't worry about UV
7watch the wind.
8past 300 yards, actually past 200, if you have to ask, you shouldn't be doing it... my 308 is fine WAY past 300....
9 much gun is good, its versatile. But if you do it just to shoot reduced loads I agree
10 Interesting, don't want batteries on a gun, but ok to kill turkeys however.
11 I used to despise anyone lazy enough to hunt with a firearm... but I got over that. LOL.

OK. I'll let you have batteries on or in your firearm after dark. The reason I don't like batteries is they always seem to go dead when you really need them.

My reason for disliking camo is I don't like it used inappropriately. You drop your camo wallet in the woods-- now what?

My reason for disliking some Old Schoolers is the intolerance. There are enough turkeys out there that everyone can go have fun however they want. The idea that you have to have your back to a tree and only use a box call is abhorent to me. Mind you, I kick it up old school once in a while, but I don't mind if somebody else wants to hide in a pop-up blind and use decoys.

White spacers on anything.

I don't even like white spacers on a pool stick.

There are also ways to REALLY protect both metal and wood, without changing the appearance of either. For steel, Dyna-Tek Gun Shield is the real deal, whether all the bluing's still there or not.

Thanks MD, my main concern is warping the forearms on my Sharps rifles, I've heard horror stories of folks trying to get those lined back out.

Of course the old buffalo hunters and mountain men used lard and pine pitch to seal and bed the barrel channels, I'll just try to keep mine dry if I can.

I've got the Dyna-Tek Gun Shield saved in my favorites section.

A strip of electrical tape along each side of the barrel/forend gap keeps H20 out of the barrel channel. Looks kinda funny, but it works! Have used it on a Quebec caribou hunt on a pre-'64 Model 70.

I hunted with a guy who slathered everything up with petroleum jelly if he thought it would rain. I kid you not. Packed into the barrel channel and action mortise, and a healthy rub down on the wood. Funny thing was one year I gave him a big jar of it for Christmas, as a continuation of my running jab at him for doing that. His wife saw it, took it a completely wrong way and put me on her sh*t list for a long time thereafter.

Not winning the lottery so that I can buy a 94 Winchester with studs, a fluted barrel (including the muzzle brake), See-thru mounts, and a huge Vortex tactical scope.

I used to hate millimeter anything, especially the 9X19 and 7 mag, the 7 mag mostly because everyone else had one and bragged on it; oh, and the .243. I have softened up over time and eventually tried them. I had to admit, I now see their point and like them as well.

I love high power rifle scopes, but still hate 50+mm objective lenses.

Like Jim in Idaho said, the overpowering volume of the rock music before, during, and after what's supposed to be a hunting video.

However, I think every man ought to have at least a few things they just don't like. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying we all have these biases. Some of us try to cloak them in thin veils of alleged rationality. Some of us let these things rule them.

Me? 270 WIN. I just can't stand it. It's a relatively benign bias. There are plenty of chamberings this side or that of 270 that I can go my whole life hating it and not have it get in my way. I can throw all my irrationalities on it and leave myself open to a myriad of other possibilities. Besides, it helps to prop up my equally irrational love of the 30-06. I do all my hunting on the east side of the Mississippi, so I'll probably never need to launch one at anything at any distance where a 270 WIN would really matter. If I do, I can pick up a 280 Remington.

Altho I differ on the 270........I can understand your feelings 'CAUSE' (not coz) I have similar UNbased and IRrational feelings about MORE than 1 cartridge that many absolutely love.

I probably will not own a 257 Roberts 'cause' people say "the Bob"--YUK ! I don't think Mr. Roberts would appreciate the sentiment.

There are other older cartridges that some are nostalgic about (I understand that) but have been surpassed and left in the dust.

There are ALSO a few newer cartridges I HAVE NO intentions of even trying....because shooting a few grains less powder and a little less recoil means NOTHING to me.

Irrational - probably, but 'just cause'.

For some reason, I don't care much for 7mm Rem. Mags. or .308s. I've owned at least two of each, and just can't get excited about them.
Not a huge fan of the .243, either, again, for no reason I can quantify.

It's not something I can pin down, I just don't think much of them.

Strange. I never cared for a 308. Wouldnt have one. I was young and my bud had a nice buck showing on the edge of a big clearcut and wanted to borry my 270.

I took his leaver 308 savage and went to the bottom and climed a big white oak. Stayed all day, pissin in my bottle. Wearing my green/black plaid woolworth shirt, getting colder by the hour on a misty winter day. Got the cold shakes and thought it was getting colder. It started sleeting about 5 pm and a big whitetail buck came out of a thicket. With its 6 lb trigger and shaking cold, i clean missed.

Bud got his big ten point with my 270. Dayom i hated a 308.

Then, 2015 another bud and i followed a big muley track into a low mesquite thicket in the desert sandhills. I took up his Browning short track 308.

We jumped that buck and by the grace of God, who i had asked to bless my shot several times, shooting through the thick mesquite at a running buck, killed my 3rd 30 inch muley, 24 points (with 4 broke off) and Texas state record SCI buck-all with a dayom 308.

I now polish the next round out of that guns magazine on a regular basis. Iffin you really want to know, the venerable 308 is a pretty sweet round.

Ha. I guess i was talking about a heavy layer applied and then after tightening the barrel and action in place, filling the area between the stock and metal.

ooooooh. You missed my point. It had nothing to do with religion. That was just the first thing that came to mind. I'll change it for you. Instead of families getting together on Sunday to eat a meal and spend quality time together, they put on their best camo and go to Cabela's. The camo gig at Cabela's happens on Sunday. I have a question for you FieldGrade. How many of my posts have you read that mention religion? Since you are taking some kind of imagined high ground please back up your statement.

People who post questions that could have been Googled, then get angry when you answer with results from Google.

People who post a question just to get validation then get angry when your answer or opinion is not what they want to hear. Don't want a different opinion, don't ask the question!

People who keep beating out the same opinion in the face of facts which show it invalid.

Elitists who insist only the most expensive brands are adequate. Expensive isn't necessarily good - get over yourself.

People who keep posting the same old pictures of a Swedish 96 Mauser that was blown up by a heavy charge of pistol powder as proof Small Ring actions are unsafe. Check the facts before you post a picture dudes.

People who respond to a question with "I never had a..." or "I have no experience with..." Uh, then why are you wasting the OP's time?

People who post their hatred of religion and/or attack religion and those who practice one. Is this America or Mao's China? Don't like religion, don't read the posts. Yes, you are the problem - the religious person isn't hurting you, but you are trying to hurt them. And that is not American.

"creed" isn't the name of a cartridge.

Merriam Webster:
Definition of creed
1
: a brief authoritative formula of religious belief the Nicene Creed
2
: a set of fundamental beliefs; also : a guiding principle
Never settle for mediocrity is his creed. — Jill Lieber

I am a Canuck and my beef is with Justin Trudeau-our (gag) prime minister.
His Papa also was in this position earlier on -two of our countries worst ever.
Easterner, liberal, anti west, and very entitled.
Crappy for Western Canada.Maybe the international boundary should run from Mexico to Manitoba rather than east to west-just my little old opinion.

I apologize toad. I over reacted and posted something nasty.
I'm still a Buddhist and and not Bible Thumping. However, I am an American and don't think it is right to attack people based on their religion in any forum. It's just un-American.
And that' what these sort of threads are: Trolling and baiting to attack people for their religious beliefs.
Anti's, just say "Thank you." and go on with your life.

Drop it back 30 minutes and leave it alone.

Good idea ...... Right in the middle.

Rubber recoil pads that have been installed on pre 64 model 70's...

Poly chokes on model 12's...

Non typical points called "trash". Really? I thought trash was tossed into the dumpster...it's ugly and it smells.

Guys who portray themselves as good shots, but seldom shoot. Usually the same guy that says his schit is the best, even though he hasn't tried or used anything else..

Same here. And generally the same guys that describe their deer in inches too; "I'm going back to the same area I killed the 163" and 148" a couple of years ago".......... sick

Nothing to do with guns and ammo but I really don't like it when people don't or can't leave an intelligible phone number on a message.

You know your phone number, I don't. The point of leaving it is so I can call you back. If you rush through it and mumble it I can't call you back.

Hi, thissez Mike, gimme call, theeunfotaniwutuwuwuay.

Mike, I'd love to call you back but I can't because you're an idiot.

One reason when I call en route to a call over VHF, I say ONE SIX FIVE, en-route....

Some things you WANT to be clear, phone numbers, slow, clear, one digit at a time, and repeat twice just to be sure....

We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

The gougers who went around buying up every round of .22LR they could find in retail stores during the late ammo drought(s) so they could re-sell it at much higher prices;

Rapacious gun dealers who post on their websites that "Remingchester's gonna discontinue the XYZ model, so you better buy the one(s) I have for sale here at my inflated price while you can.";

The Greedy SOBs who jump their asking price on that XYZ model Remingchester $250 as soon as it's discontinued despite the fact that Remingchester is discontinuing that model because no one was buying them at the lower price;

The speculators who buy up discontinued models of guns which they really have no interest in owning aside from their belief that it will appreciated in price over the next 5-10 years; and the peckerheads who write the books and articles that encourage that kind of speculation by claiming what a good investment guns (or anyway, certain models) are.

I don't like tactical anything, just coz. Don't like semi-auto anything, just coz. Don't like dimmer switches on the steering column. After all these years, I still think they belong on the floor.

Just looked up Moose Knuckle Hanco. I'd never heard of it either. I'd post the definition but it would get deleted.

Kingston, are those your ex-wives? If the last two are your most recent at least you are moving in the right direction.

I dated a fat girl once. Broke up with her because her farts would knock a Doberman off a sausage wagon.

I don't like plastic guns (Glocks, S&W M&P, etc.) cuz God wanted all guns to be made of steel. Plastic guns just aren't right!

You know, I have a great friend who simply needs to take his shooting a bit more seriously. Over the last 6-7 years, he's hit 3 deer that we haven't got because he's convinced that 180 grain bullets out of his trusty 30-06 will cure all ills. He fires one shot at a milk jug at 40 yards or so and "that's good enough to kill a deer". Most of his deer hunting days are behind him but he needs to be responsible enough to learn (or re-learn) to shoot.
