Just curious if I am still the only one still laying in 22 ammo and components anytime I can find them at a reasonable price.

At the rate the Rinos and Dems are fighting Trump tooth and nail on everything he is trying to do and the debacle that repealing Obamacare without a replacement I am concerned that in 2018 the Republican majority control will be but a brief memory.

For myself I am just going to keep on making sure that I don't get caught short.

223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.

I suspect you may be right about the mid-term elections, but I pretty much stocked up for life after Obama got re-elected. Though I did pick up a couple of 525's of Federal bulk-pack Champion .22 LR hollow-points when they showed up on the shelves of one local store after Trump was elected. My wife's Anschutz, her primary gopher-gun, shoots them very well....

Can't stock up here. Still no 22 LR at decent prices. LGS had them at $7/50

I just bought some more bullets and primers today and scored on some H4350!!!!!!!! There is a god.... cool The shelves are way stocked up on 22lr here too... The last time I was at Cabela's, I bought a brick of SK standard match grade ammo. It was on sale and the shelves were stocked with CCI, aguila, browning, and a few other brands I didn't recognize... Glad to see things turning around..

Yes... As I live in a bad state.. When I see things getting low I replenish. Actually stocking up up on some items as new laws are going to make ammo hard to find and expensive. Midway has Federal 22LR Ulra Match for $9.99 I got a couple of bricks at that price.

There seems to be 22lr just about everywhere now! Picked up a 1400 count bucket golden bullets at Sportsman's, this week! It's squeek season here! The federal I purchased last fall are the worst I've ever seen! Its like when they did get powder, only half enough was used. The others just get a dent in the rim, and don't go bang! I thought it was my 10-22 messing up, so I tried my 39 lever! No better, then took a box of ten year old shorts and compared to the federal! The shorts hit an inch higher at 25 yards! That tells me federal pumped out a bunch of crap during the Obummer years!

I have all I probably would ever need, but not all I might want for fooling around, trying to find the best load for everything. New rifles seem to keep finding their way here, so it's never gonna be over until I am.

Local Walmart says their weekly shipment now lasts until the next day. Must still be some VISAs not quite maxed out. Meant to check the shelves for Spam, Vienna sausages, and Pork & Beans but I forgot.

Every now and then I find a 100 round box of Winchester HP's at Walamrt. My old Remington 22 rifle really shoots them well, so I try and keep a bunch on hand.

Lots of 22's hereabouts, but sort of an eclectic selection. Local Field and Stream has stacks of cases of Fed Auto "match quality", 325 rounds for about $19. Jury is out on just how good this stuff might be.
Super x and Remington golds were there as well at about 10 cents a round. Several kinds of Eley for twice that price.

Yesterday Dad and I walked into Academy and right there out in the open was all kinds of 22lr and no limits on anything. And then as if it couldn't get any better, they had a clearance shelf loaded down with 22lr. We didn't buy any since we didn't need any. I told Dad this is what winning looks like!

I took my cues back in '08 and diligently built my inventory over the following years. Unless I live to be 100, I can hunt the rest of my life and play on the range some without buying another thing. It doesn't help that I keep learning about them introducing all these new bullets and powders, though. I wish they'd stop that---well, no...not REALLY.

I sure hope all this pessimism over the next election turns out to be unfounded.

It has been challenging to keep 22 ammo on hand for our K.A.M.O (Kids And Mentors Outdoors) chapters and hunter education classes, but ammo has become readily available recently.

Visited four local stores yesterday, looking for other stuff, and every one had stacks of .22 Long Rifle and other rimfire ammo for sale, generally at decent prices. But then March in Montana is the beginning of "gopher" season, when ground squirrels really start emerging from underground. Stores usually try to get some in, somehow or other, but it isn't disappearing quickly like it was last March.

When Armageddon comes to Alaska, there will either be a very selected few arming themselves out of the personal connexes from the stashes of 22 LR, or we'll all be using 9mm and 223 stuff.

I find 22 LR ammo, but not the brands I shot pre-Big O. That available does not reliably run our Hunter Ed 10/22. Very frustrating when one is trying to get 20 kids through 10 rds each and having to stop and clear the action about every 5 rds. We run 4 different shooting stations in our class, and the 10/22 is our hated bottle neck.

Have not seen a brick of Win Power Points in 9 or 10 years.

My personal supply is extremely good, but that's because I responded to the middle America religion/guns comment before BiG O was even elected.

June 2014. I saw these (35 cases) at a store in Santa Clara. They would let each customer buys three boxes. So I took my son and my daughter to the store and bought nine boxes at a time. Once I had about 5000 rounds I stopped buying them. They sold for less than eight dollars for 50.

I attended a gunshow here in Illinois this last winter after not having been to one for a couple of years. It seemed to me there were more vendors with reloadng components(particularly powder) than I remembered from past gunshows. Maybe some of these vendors over-bought in expectation of politically-based shortages that haven't happened(yet). I'm hoping some of them will cut prices....

I've always tried to slowly build a comfortable inventory. I finished shooting my old stuff in around 2003/4, which I brought with me to Wyo. in 1985 (I've always been a prepper grin).Continued to slowly increase inventory until the half-breed Kenyan got in office. I've only managed to buy 3 bricks (550 bulk pack), since, which I gave to my son! If I can ever start buying again, I'll start shooting again!
Components: Never stopped, but was slowed a bit for a while. memtb

22LR is readily available. I'm to the point of turning down allocations. We have tons of 22WMR too.

Primers are hit and miss, brass inventories aren't great either. I'd venture to guess you'll see that change by the end of the year.

Cabela's and Sportsmans Warehouse both had plenty of 22s on the shelves. By way of comparison, a brick of Thunderbolts was priced at $35. I'm not ready to pay that yet.

The only place that doesn't have 22 RF in stock locally is the Wallyworld where the trailer park crowd grabs it up for their stash. I never understood the hoarding/prepper crap. I was always able to get 22 RF, and could always get rifle or shotgun/pistol powder.

I "resemble" this on several points. One of them being..... WTSHTF, and it will sooner or later, you'll wish you'd have thought that out a little more. memtb

I've been hearing "WTSHTF" since I was a little kid in the '60s. It was the Nazi's coming back, the Commie Ruskies, the Hippies or Yippies, racial rebellion, the gas crisis, the economy, Militias, etc etc etc etc.
I'll just go shoot the hoarders and take their crap.

I forgot: The UN, Black Helicopters, the Chinese through Mexico, Men in Black Suits, and the Aliens behind the Comet!

i'm a bit concerned that the average rank & file member doesn't give sufficient importance to the aliens behind the comet scenario.

it might be the planet behind the sun, as an analogy?

I think Wal-marts price is still 27 dollars a brick when they can get it. To me, that's what the "fair" price ought to be. Just my opinion based on nothing whatsoever. When and if I find 22lr on the shelf at that price I'll buy it. If I feel like I really need it, I think there are places online that have it for that price. If I think we're going to run into the shortage again, I may pay the premium; but for now, I'm not buying till the price comes down.

On the plus side, Cabela's in Idaho Falls had just about every brand of 22mag on the shelf you could think of including winchester 40gr hollowpoints. Unfortunately, my 22mag is still in Maryland keeping groundhogs from devouring the garden.

I just bought 10 325 packs of Federal .22 ammo from sgammo.com for $189.50 + $16 shipping. Works out to 6.3 cents per round. Not bad. And, I don't have to waste my time checking Wal-Mart, which never has any, and when they do it's $29 + tax...which equals about 9.5 cents per round.

Snake River, WalMart in Cody. $29.86/box (plus 4% sales tax). Wife and I had a good meal at Irma's. All in All a good day. Weather was pretty cr@%%y, so in was nice to leave the "trailerpark" and go stock-up! You know us "preppers" , can't pass up a good deal!! Heard there was a "Blue Light" special at K-Mart... The building's for sale!! grin memtb

Not exactly a steal.... But it's the first quality bullets I've seen available in years. I thought the price was acceptable!

I'm stocked up for a lifetime on 22 ammo and reloading components for quite a few cartridges and now I'm stocking up for another lifetime. 😀

I have bought 550 round bricks off the Innanet for $24.00 a brick shipped.Do a search. That is what I payed before the OBummer crises. Its been a long time since the $9.99 Bricks were available and you will never see those days again. Some guys selling at a local gunshow are in denial as they were asking $50.00 a brick.I showed them the Innanet Price on my Smart ass phone and thought they were going to cry.

Huntz, That's a good price. I've found cheaper than what I paid, but being the picky a$& I am, I wanted name brand "plated"! So, it took more time and more money. The price you pay for being stubborn. frown memtb

I was really picky and only shot CCI or Remington copper coated.
I did Dyna Bore Coat on all my 22s also, and I can shoot plain wax on lead with no leading!

I order stuff online at least once a week. I think the prices right now are as good as we are ever going to see. At some point the majority of the scared folks are going to be supplied up. When that happens in the near future I predict a big slow down and a healthy price hike.

Trystan,

I'm puzzled. "When the majority of the scared folks are supplied up" there's going to be a big price hike? How does lower demand result in higher prices?

American eagle= 400 round bricks. 7 cents a round is 35 dollars for 500, for plinking ammo..... I'm a cheap bastid. Knock another cent and a half off and I could get interested

Less revenue to pay the cost of doing buisiness. It's just a WAG "Wild Ass Guess" 😀 I think supply and demand does drive prices down as long as there is enouph volume to pay the cost. If sales drop through the floor which I believe is going to happen.....another "WAG" ☺ I think manufactures will make a lot less product and have to ask a higher price to meet the bottom line due to lack of revenue. I know that might seem out there but I call the market on things like this all the time and have a pretty good track record.

Deflagrate, We run some in semi-auto handguns, and I thought that we'd have better feeding and less build-up in the feed ramp area. So, I tried to be patient. In the bolt guns, not so much! memtb

I'm just darn happy to have 22's available again. Have most everything around here again. I don't mind spending a little more, can't expect prices to stay the same forever.

We even have .22LR in New Yorkistan. Dick's had Winchester 555's on sale for $29.95 last weekend. Lots of Remington stuff in the flyer too.

So there you go, just under five and a half cents a round. Right around twenty seven dollars for 500. That's where I "THINK" they ought to be. It's a heck of a lot more than the ten dollars a brick I was paying back in the nineties, but a candy bar cost a lot more than back then too. Maybe I'm just wrong about the "right" price.

I just retired from a career as a regional sales manager with a US based aluminum extruder. My position gave me an up-close view of many hundreds of manufacturers and distributors over the years. I have never seen anyone successfully employ the business model described above. Part A is realistic, Part B - not so much.

I bought 2,220 rounds of Winchester/Olin 36 grain HPs today, 222x10, for $126.00, around $0.057 per round. Gunsunlimited in Omaha had a pallet of them on the floor and although I tried, I couldn't resist.

Crap ammo at any price is still crap. Why waste money on stuff that doesn't perform well in your guns?

Only exception might be for pistol practice. At my skill level, accuracy issues ain't due to ammo.
