Stopped by the LGS today to pick ups some accessories.

Instead a Para Ordinance Commander sized, double stack 1911 .45 followed me home. Previous owner was even nice enough to break it in for me.

So, please schools me on the 1911.

It has a partial length guide rod. Should I replace it with a full length, or is it not a big deal.

Do they really like to be run wet, or is that just internet BS?

What do you like for leather with them?

Do you have some favorite loads?

What should I know about them that the new 1911 owner probably doesn't?

First thing you need to know is that every used 1911 must be thoroughly checked out by a competent, highly trained specialist before you can get your mitts on it.

I currently provide such a service free for members of this board. Just send it on out to me and I'll put it through its paces for a few years for you, will let you know as soon as I'm sure its OK to use. grin

Google "idiot scratch" and figure out how to avoid it ASAP- before stripping it. Outside of that, should be G2G.

1911s rely on being lubed for reliability more so than modern auto pistols, yes.

Run it wet...even dripping...won't hurt!

Easiest pistol in the world to shoot accurately with a good trigger and standard issue sights!

Be careful, 1911's are well known to cause an unexplainable urge to buy more of the same.

It' an incurable love.

If you reload for it try Titegroup, you'll love it.

Anyone care to add - where to lube, with how much, of what lubricant?
Seems I read an article, years back, making it simple.

This is pretty much the method I use, although I do use less grease.

I also use Super Lube synthetic grease as well.

Don't worry about that, it's fine.

Bullcrap, just lube it lightly.

Just get some CLP or something like that then put a drop on each side of the rails front and back, work the slide a few times and you're done.

I didn't know they made a double stack 1911, does it take away from the sleek look? How many rounds?

Not sleek, 14 rounds if memory serves.

The rails, mainly. Also the groves in the interior of the slide where the barrel locks into. Also the forward area of the barrel. Any place where steel moves against steel. Just a little drop here and there. No need to over do it.

Thanks A&F.

The Alien gear looks really interesting, especially for the price, and I have a pound of 231 on the shelf.
