257, no, my 6.5x47 has a home
But I do see value in a quality off the major mfg supporting quality arms and ammo in well engineered rounds. No doubt in the 6mm game the 47 and XC have had a great track record in many disciplines. I see this trio as being a tight race.
Cinch, Long ago RCBS was my go to, then Redding came along, I still use both with good success. I have used Redding 2 piece die sets for rounds like the 6BR, and shot wonderful groups. I partial size. No doubt, those who go the extra mile have better loads, but my quality guns and handloads I have assembled over the years using the above, have done better than me. I have shot the BRs in the 1s and 2s - which is something I am not always up to doing, even when the rifle, ammo, and conditions are in sync. I am much more a 1/2 MOA shooter...as short over very heavy steady rifles, there are so many factors as you guys know. I shot groups 1/4" at 200 yds with a 6BR, and touched off rounds between heartbeats...thru a 14x....it pushed my eyes and shooting technique/timing, etc.
I'll bet if the 6.5CM is any indicator - the 6 MIGHT outdo it a smidgen - and if so, that RAR is going to do very well, for very little expense. Look forward to hearing more on it. Anyone know if Kimber and/or Tikka will do the 6CM? I would feel they will in time. If anything there might be more 6mm shooters by for than 6.5 in the USA...so it's a natural it seems. I said that long ago...
I do wish we had top notch arms and a variety of quality affordable ammo in the 6.5x47 as well as say the 6xc. This void is where Hornady nailed it, along with Big Green dropping the ball on not chambering the 6.5-308 A-Square in more rifles, using the more versatile 8 twist, and loading a variety of high accuracy loads, that are affordable.
I did hear Big Green had a layoff recently....
It pays to listen to customers, and mfg/sell what customers want. My opinion, the 6mm and 6.5s in modest capacity rounds will grow more roots and gain a long-term following, in large part due to the industry support. Shooters are getting wiser, and choosing low recoil/report, accuracy, lower ammo expense, longer barrel life, and well constructed bullets, over sheer headstamps and horsepower when shooting paper, varmints, and non-dangerous NA game i.e. deer and hogs.
I anticipate future range reports on the new 6mm CM.
Thanks Guys.
