I've been thinking of walking the Kokoda Trail in a year when I retire (I'm American). Have any of you done it? I'd sure like to hear about it.

Not apparently a popular idea, even down under.

Are the Golden Stairs still walkable?

Not apparently a popular idea, even down under. My cousin is the only person I know that has walked the Kokoda track, so it's not really a popular thing to do here in Oz. It's physically demanding which probably prevents a lot from doing it. There was a news story online about Kokoda today. http://www.9news.com.au/national/2017/04/08/20/11/malcolm-turnbull-marks-75-years-since-kokoda

Have had quite a few friends and colleagues who've done it. Apparently a very worthwhile experience for the war / history buffs.
