Man, I was shooting 2 of my newer rifles today (both 7mm magnums) at the range and it came as a surprise to me that the Tikka 7mm RM, may just get kicked out of the safe by my New Haven stainless classic 7WSM. These rifles were bought just 2 days apart and I figured I'd "try them both and get rid of the one that I didn't like as much, or the one that didn't shoot as well".... Well, I've had them both to the range on a few occasions now and the Tikka is shooting consistent 3/4" groups.... It's still getting sent down the road. I guess you know what that means... wink... Hope you all are having a great new year...

I feel your pain..

I have a well used 1949 Standard weight in '06 that shoots that well with different handloads ranging from a 110vmax @3,450FPS to a 180g Partition at 2,700..

But sadly for me, it's no Tikka...

sniff...

wink

ANY bolt action rifle with cheap pot metal and/or plastic parts makes me head to barf city. mad nothing is more atrocious than cheap chit in the name of corporate profit, IDGAFF how they shoot.

Blued steel and walnut will shoot too, as will stainless with a high quality syn stock.

Did the same a few years ago. I was primarily a M70 guy with a few Rutgers thrown into the mix, tried a Tikka and loved it, ended up with 3 of them. Then came full circle, and back to M70’s though less overall guns in general.

I still think Tikka’s are great, just prefer M70’s. To me Tikkas are at there best as a varmint rifle (mine is a 222) or a backup/loaner/back 40 type rifle. I know a lot of guys use them for backcountry rifles due to there lightweight, just not for me in that regard.

I’m in the same boat, have a Tikka 6.5 CM, 270 Win, 7-08, and 22-250. By no means are they in the same category as my P64’s or even my Classics but they aren’t crap either. I still have a couple 700’s in my safe as well.. I’d take a Tikka every gosh darned day over anything Remington builds these days. The triggers on the Tikkas are very good as are their barrels and actions. I could do without the plastic trigger guards but they aren’t totally crap. I think there are replacements.

I got the Tikkas as fun guns and they are very accurate without much fuss, but I cannot see any of them ever replacing my small P64 collection.

Yup, there are soulless tools, then tools with class, admiration, beauty, and an appreciation for build quality.

There are enough old Mausers and Pre-64s out there to keep me from buying anything new.

IMO, there's a lot more to a good hunting rifle than sheer accuracy. Even if every Tikka that came out of a cardboard box shot 1/4" groups all day long (until the bolt handle dovetail in the bolt body cracks and fails, that is...LOL), I would select a Model 70 over it every day of the week. I don't care for the look or the feel of a Tikka. They feel cheap.

I’m just waiting for Winchester to make the model 70 in a 6.5 Creedmoor. But I do know where a extreme weather is in a 264 win mag.. I do have a 7-08 in a classic featherweight that will not shoot it’s a copper fouler that’s where the problem is, anyhow seriously thinking of having it rebarreled to a 260 Remington with a #2 shilen..

Count me in.

Every bolt action I own is a pre '64 or 90's Classic Model 70. Would not and will not have it any other way. Oh, except the one push feed Featherweight in 223 REM.

No BACO triggers, "made in Portugal", or other rifles that made sure to include sevens in their model number because of the standard set by the Model 70, and certainly no "disposable" rifles for me, ever.

If I NEVER touch off a single round of 6.5 Creed, I will die a happy man.

Preachin' to the choir, brother!

Don't think I have hunted another brand of rifle in nearly 10 years (muzzleloaders aside)

I have exactly two Remingtons - one I built for myself when I got into this biz and the other acquired beforehand, in .17 Rem. THAT one I really like, but more for the cartridge than for the rifle, IYGMD..

Other than a couple Rugers and a Marlin lever, the rest are all M70s....

You ain't gonna find a Tikka, Kimber Montana or anything else like that anywhere near my safes.. Just a personal choice, nothing against the rifles themselves...

I've got one sporterized 03 Springfield, one sporterized 98 Mauser and 15 Model 70's. I'm starting to see a pattern here!

My centerfires rifles consist of five M70 Classics from the 90s, a tang safety Ruger 22-250 AI that I bought real reasonably, and a Marlin 336. Other than searching for an oddball flatbolt Ruger M77 in 6.5 Rem Mag, I don’t remember the last time I even kinda wanted a bolt action other than an M70. But I can think of three or four M70s I’d still like to buy.
