After looking at it a dozen times over a period of about a year, I put it on layaway today. I've never been much of a Marlin fan but the short magazine tube really looked cool to me. It's tight and shows a little bluing wear. The stock is blond with a coat of Truoil on it. I'll probably refinish the stock. I need a scope base. It just has the empty holes right now. I keep thinking about shortening the barrel .........
I think I'm going to get a Marlin Guide Gun next.

I'd plug those holes, refinish the stock, add a receiver sight, and take a nap.
Hopefully, the hacksaw nightmares will go away. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

If I had it shortened, I'd get a gunsmith to do it. Your advise is good and I'll probably follow it.
Still think I'll get a Guide Gun too.

Refinish the stock.
Put a Weaver base on board, and a set of good rings (Burris).
Chop the barrel, if you want, you won't lose much, esp. in the woods.

Don't forget the bipod and a tinted rear view mirror, for a sweet handlin' rig.
Sometimes, a guy may as well tote a BLR. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

BLR?
Friggin' never...
Can't fathom the bipod, nor the rear tinted window, either.
However, I can't see how chopping the barrel of a Marlin .30-30 from 20" to 18" or 16.5" is going to adversely affect ballistics that much. If it does, heck, just load the danged things +P where you can with the Marlin anyway, and you're right back to just about the same as you would have been with the 20" tube anyhow.
Stoke a 2.5x on top, or a receiver peep, and you're good to go.
That said, ain't no flies on a stock Marlin .30-30.

I plan on refinishing the stock a dark red, and putting either a scope (or peep sight) and a 1" leather sling on it.

I really like this Glenfield. You'll like it better if you send out to jess and have it rebored to .375 winchester This one started life as 30TK in 30-30 and now is the ultimate "Guide Gun" Weagle

I've thought about that, but I want to see how it shoots first. I have an 1895GS already.
