Has anyone purchased one of these yet? I want one (bad), but they are still kind of pricey (Midway still has them at over $900).

Did you check with Competition Shooting Sports in Houston TX? I'm not sure on the price but he was fair when I bought my 50 beowulf.

I've shot the 6.5 uppers but never bought one yet. Not for any reason other than other things have priority. I will have one for a deer upper sooner or later though.

Sanlen,
Have you considered one of the WSSM's? I had my eye on the Grendall too, but decided the 243 WSSM was a better choice for my purposes. I got a custom upper built with all the whistles and bells for spare change over what you are talking for the Grendall and could have done so a few hundred cheaper by cutting the options. Turn around time was a couple of weeks. I can pick up ammo or brass locally, there's lots of load info available and it shoots very well. It can also be had in the other WSSM's. Just a thought.

Well, RickyD

The reason I need (okay, want) the Grendal are multiple (about 18 in each magazine).

The real reason is that it is a true 1000 yard gun. From 750 yards on it beats 308 balistics but still fits on a regular AR-15 lower, and can fit 18 rounds in a 223 20 round mag. I don't think the WSSM 243 can match that, can it? I really don't know for sure.

If the numbers are close and it's significantly less bucks, sure I'm interested, but I don't want a tweaked up 223.

(Oh, and please don't tell anyone you talked to me on this side of the campfire. It might cause some people to need therapy! )

how does the 25 WSSM stack up compared to the 6.5 G?

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

It won't match the round capacity but I believe it will do better ballistically from what I just read. I wasn't sure how it would stack up as a 1K gun but Googled this up. WARNING: web info

an excerpt:
General Advantages of the .243 WSSM
This consideration of the .243 WSSM is going to focus on the performance of two specific rounds the 95grain Winchester Supreme Ballistic Silvertip factory cartridge and an as yet unavailable load featuring Berger's 115-grain Very Low Drag boat tail hollow point. Other factory and hand-loaded options exist, but these two choices represent, in the 95gr SBST, an excellent off-the-shelf option that is immediately available, and, in the 115gr VLD, a potential load that could maximize the performance of this caliber.

Before parsing the differences between these bullets, their similarities should be described. Both options dramatically outperform the .223, .308., and .300 cartridges. As the chart illustrates, with only one exception (.300s buck wind better than the 95gr SBST), the .243 WSSMs in combination with these bullets should outperform the three established sniper cartridges in the three most important phases; trajectory, wind, and the lead required for movers. Put simply, the .243 WSSM rounds shoot faster and flatter than the .300s while having less recoil than the .308.

Something to think about, maybe. Even so, I'd like a Grendel too.

Actually the 6.5 grendel beats the .308 win at 600yds, more energy, higher retained velocity. I think that the grendel has more potential than the wssm's, with the 6.5 you can shoot match grade bullets up to 142grs while still being able to shoot the lighter bullets. All of this with more in the mag, the grendel was designed specifically for the AR-15/M-16 platform and Palmisano had a hand in its deveopement as well as lapua, hard to beat this performance level in a combat weapon.
