I've had this rifle for quite a few years and would like to know when it was made. It's an EG in .300 Savage, serial # 737OXX.

For rifles of that period the best way to date them is with the lever boss code. On the front of the lever boss there should be an oval stamped there with two digits and a letter. Sometimes the stamp is difficult to read. A = 1949, B = 1950, etc. This was discontinued around 1961.

On the front of the lever boss, where it hinges, is an oval stamp. Inside the oval is 1 or 2 numbers and 1 letter. The numbers are inspector marks and the letter is the "Date Code". The date codes began in 1949 with A, 50 B, 51 C, etc. No "O" or "Q", they look alike. Sometimes the marks are lightly struck and you may need a magnifying glass to see it. Some of the serial numbers are out of order so you need the "Date Code" to be accurate. All I can say is it was made after 1949, others with records probably can narrow it down better, but the Date Code will be spot on, Joe.

Thanks Rick.

I did look at the letter code buts it's too lightly struck to read, even with magnification. I appreciate every bodies help.
