Thanks Kingston for that link. I learned a few things.
The Northstar with its thin-plate, pure-lead may the ultimate deep cycle battery for a boat's trolling motor. Amazon showed them and the price for a group 31 is a whopping $368!
I will stick with my Deka batteries which cost around $200 each, as I bought locally and can get replacement or warranty work etc easily.
FYI when using two deep cycles in series it is critical that they are a set. Never install one new one with an older one.
This applies to all batteries. Always float and finish the battery with your charger before using it. AND with vehicles, and I suppose the cranking battery for a boat, you should float and finish the battery with a charger every 6 months or so. An alternator will not finalize the charge of a battery like a charger. This will help extend the service life of the battery. Got that information from the Arizona representative for East Penn batteries.
