I think Ruger is on to something with the Ruger #1-AH confguration that Seven Heavan has.

A 24" barrel with the shorter fore-end just makes a nice handy deer rifle.

Also either put brown laminated wood on the stainless models or put on the standard wood. Just looks nicer.

Dr. Encore,

I sure wish I knew why Ruger made that special run of the No 1-AH. I have the 1-AB in .25-06. Had I know they were going to put the AH fore-end on it, I'd have waited. frown Perhaps they just ran out of the AB fore-end? ? ? The 24" bbl is a nice touch with cartridges that benefit from the extra 2" of bbl. For example, I wouldn't want a .22-250 or a .264 Win Mag with a 22" bbl. But OTOH, I don't see any great need for a 24" bbl in .308, 7mm-08, or 7x57. JMHO.

Too bad they don't put a tastful Schnable fore-end on the 1-A or the 1-AB ala Browning Low Wall. That would lend the rifle a certain elegance.

But truthfully, we can't expect Ruger to make #1's in every conceivable variation. I think we are extremely fortunate to have as many variations as we have. The demise of the Number 1 has been rumored for years. I hope it never happens, but if it does, I have plenty to satisfy needs for some years to come. smile

Grasshopper,

Ruger has basicly ignored the Ruger #1 for many years. They have
decided this year to put some advertising/marketing money behind the rifle to increase sales. They oviously see T/C selling thousands of single shot rifles for almost $799.00 ,so it is not like we single shot shooters are not buying single shots. Just not the Ruger.

It's my opinion that this is Ruger's last ditch effort to keep this rifle in the production line by attempting to increase sales. If this effort fails to resurrect this fine rifle to the status it deserves the bean counters will kill it.

I think 12,000 rifles per year just is not enough.

Ruger should have a semi-custom shop to satify our desires for the non-production gun. If Savage, Remington S & W, can make it work try to explain to me why Ruger can not.

Ruger has been "asleep". They need to make some serious changes
to maintain their USA market share. Once you lose market share it is hell BUYING it back.

Hello All
How about a 28" #1B in 300 Ultra or 30-378 or 7.82 Warbird. No sights enough comb on the stock for high rings and a 50mm bell. Matte and Satin finish.

#1-A in .303 British.I don't need any more #1's, but I'd probably pinch pennies to get that one.

Ruger has come out with a couple of cartridges of thier own lately, I would like to see them add one more. the old 22 Newton whick came out in about 1915 which was pretty much a 22/257 roberts with a fast twist to handle heavy 22 caliber bullet would be a very useful cartridge and you can put me down for the first one.

DocFoster,

According to my references the .22 Newton called for a .228 dia. bullet. Which is pretty much obsolete these days. However the 5.6x57 RWS is pretty much what you are asking for. smile

That's a neat idea, Grasshopper. Why don't you do it? Actually, the hard part is already done on the Alex Henry forend. Look at it from the side. The schnable tip is already there. All that needs to be done is to remove the excess wood behind it. If you want the forend really slim it would cost the factory checkering, but it might look okay without cutting into the checkering. Hmmm.....

All Remington Ultras and all Winch. short mags.
A few years ago I spoke to a factory rep at the Reno SCI mentioning the ultras and he looked at me as if I was the man from the moon. That there showed me Ruger's disinterest in customer's desires.

Big Redhead,

AAMOF, I have already done it. I have two #1's and a #3 with a Schnable fore-end. And like them very much. My custom #1 in 9.3x74R has a 25" tapered octagon barrel with the schnable FE. JMV375 has seen it and I believe 1-B has, also.

As I stated on the other thread: There are two kinds of people in this world: "Those who WISH and those who WILL!" I prefer to be among the latter. wink grin smile

Depending on where you are located in the state, A viewing could be arranged for you, as well. grin

A #1 International (aka "RSI") in 7x57R with "superior grade" wood.

As mentioned previously, a single shot rifle should be chambered for a rimmed cartridge.

Well St. Louis is supposedly the geographic center of the lower peninsula, so if you are near there, I am about 25 miles west of you. A viewing would be fun. Thank you for the invite. PM me, please.

1-S in .35 Whelen or .338/06 and a 1-H in .470 (although the .450/400 will be OK too!)

It looks like 6.5X55 is a front runner so far with lots of good suggestions.

I'd buy an RNO 1-AB or 1-V in 221 Fireball
