Slippery slope yet once again? I am sure they can cite numerous incidents where these awful weapons have been used to destroy property and kill and maim innocents, NOT!Importation, sale, possession or transfer of weapons that fire certain rounds; penalty. Provides that any person who imports, sells, possesses, or transfers a firearm that fires the U.S. Army .50 caliber Browning Machine Gun round, the Russian/Chinese Army 12.7 mm round or the Russian/Chinese Army 14.5 mm round is guilty of a Class 6 felony. http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=031&typ=bil&val=hb1908

Absolute and total BS! I've got a .50/70 1868 (?) Springfield Trapdoor. It was issued to the 3rd Infantry in something like 1874, two years before Custer's trip up to the Little Bighorn.
I once joked about it being banned as a long range sniper rifle. All they have to do now is ban .50 centerfires and it would get included.
End of that joke.

I have a spare M2 barrel in my basement; I bought it at a gun show. I've been dreaming about one day getting access to a decent lathe and vertical mill and building it into a bolt-action single fifty. Probably won't happen for years, if at all; but now it looks like maybe I ought to get hold of a couple 100rd boxes of 50BMG to stash in the basement too, just in case. Even if I never get around to actually building the rifle, I'll bet a couple of boxes of ammo will eventually have significant barter value. And if I do, then no matter what the government outlaws, I'm sure I'll be able to find some way to feed my single fifty as long as I have brass. Maybe I won't be able to develop the full 15,000 foot-pounds of muzzle energy, but I'll still be able to get somebody's attention, I'm sure.

My friendly gun shop buys .50 BMG ammo linked in cans and sells them by the round, could be a good investment in the future to get a couple of those cans full!
