I’m the market for a lightweight scope for my Model 7 308. I primarily hunt the swamps of Louisiana and often hunt a pipeline with 300 yards or so in each direction. Looking for first hand experience and suggestions. Thanks

There is a 3-9 trijicon in the classifieds that would do you well in the low light of the swamps and handle the 300yd shots too. Lots of good glass available in that price range.

I just posted a FX3 for $265 that would be a nice fit for your .308.

Both of mine ss 308 & 260 wear nikon monarch 2x8-32 - work real well . I like less than 40mm objectives on the carbine length rifles - just an opinion .

The Leupold FX3 would fit the bill perfect but I noticed it's sold. I have the same on my Tikka 7-08.

ol mike’s Nikon Monarch 2-8x32 sounds good. I had a 2-7x32 on the predecessor of the 7, the 660 in 308, and it was just right. But I could appreciate that extra 1x for longer shots and sighting in.
My first thought was a VX2 2-7x33 since they are very compact and lightweight. And the small ocular gives good bolt clearance. But 300 is a good poke and I sure wouldn’t mind 8 over 7 if I had the time to turn it up..

At 300 yards an object at 8x appears to be 37.5 yards distant, while an object at 7x appears to be 42.9 yards distance, a difference of 5.4 yards or 16.2'.

Small rifle = small scope. Large rifle = large scope.
I'd use a VX2 2-7.

I'm going with a VX3i 2.5-8x36 on my light weight woods rifle. I will end up with a model 7 or a fieldcraft. I got the cart ahead of the horse but couldnt pass up a good deal on the scope here in the classifieds. I pondered a 1.5-5 x20 of which I have first hand knowledge of but I thought I might need a bit more objective in the dark woods/swamp and I since I dont know what the future will bring as far as opportunity I thought the abilty to get to 7 or 8 power with the 36 objective would be a good all arounder ith out give up much on either end of the spectrum. I woukd have been just as happy maybe more with a good used VX3.

Might as well get a 1.5-6 then I shoot to 300 yards quite often using lower magnification scopes. 6x is plenty for the OP's stated application.

Just left my local academy, they have the 2-7X35 vortex Diamondback on sale for $134. I may have found a smoking deal.

I have a Howa Lightweight, basically the same size/weight as an M7.
I had a 2-7X33 VX-2 on it but recently changed to a VX-3i 2.5-8X36.
I think either scope compliments the rifle well. Hits out to 400 yards aren't an issue.
