Yes they are. The new 9mm ammo is causing PD's to switch out of their 40's. I have 2 glock 40's I don't plan on giving up. kwg

This has been going on for some time. I can't prove it, but law enforcement seems to follow the FBI (except for the Texas Rangers, and likely some other elite organizations.). I believe FBI is going back to 9mm.
Last March, I did a quick and dirty survey of handgun ammo prices. In equal quality ammo (brass case, boxer primed "range ammo"), 9mm was 18.5c are round, .40 was 23.9c a round. Even .380 was more expensive than .40. Production volume is a big driver. If you want cheap .40, it might be a good idea to stock up now. As it falls from favor, production will drop, and prices will rise.

I've picked up a couple LEO trade in .40s in the past two months at prices I couldn't say no to. From what I'm seeing, there is definitely a glut of these handguns nowadays. .40s may not be cost effective for a police department but they sure work fine for my needs. A Gen 4 Glock 22 with very little use under $300 is a deal in my book.

Calgary PD is moving to 9mm. The Mounties never left 9mm.

The 9-mm continues to improve as time goes on. If I was an officer today, I could be more than happy with a 9-mm. I carry one everyday now as it is.(EDC)
Take care

Our Sheriff's dept is walking away from them and back to the "9", big mistake in my book.

Sycamore I picked one up last year for, as I recall, about $350.00. Maybe less. I will have to dig out the receipt. Nearly new looking.

When I started with my Law enforcement career in Central Ohio in 1985 I was issued a .38 revolver. In 1990 we went to S&W 4506 in 45ACP (great duty weapon). In 2006 we changed to the S&W M&P in .40 S&W. I'm retired now, but I've been told that Columbus P. D. Is going to transition to the M&P 2.0 in 9mm this year. Giant step backward in my opinion. The reason? Easier for "smaller framed" officers to handle. That means women.

I am a firearms instructor for my department. With this new ground swell of 9 mm 147gr fever, we are not going switch over any time soon. I would prefer to wait and see time in real world police involved shootings. Laboratory jell/ media testing aside, meat and bone are different. Results on the street are what we are looking for. We will while give this some time and watch from the sidelines. Out issued G22, 40 cals have been very effective. Not every idea fronted by the feds has been a good one. Wait and see. Blue

Ron Spot on....That said, the FBI's "rationale" is more rounds, more rounds on target due to less recoil and new 9MM bullet technology "equalizes" the playing field.
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”

What is the 9mm super performance ammo that is being promoted? It's a true statement, generally speaking, not just for a particular round. Bullet design technology has just advanced to a tremendous degree since the 1970s in terms of reliable mushrooming, weight retention, and adequate penetration, all at once.

What is the 9mm super performance ammo that is being promoted? There's nothing super about its performance. The FBI established certain criteria based on gunfights that have occurred involving law enforcement. It was found the 147gr. 9mm's doesn't really leave anything on the table in comparison to larger calibers. But that is only one of the multitude of reasons they cited when they determined the 9mm made the most sense for law enforcement personnel.
