Fellas, I've aquired a Marlin 336 that I have some questions regarding. It has a straight stock, squared lever, gold trigger, and 18 1/2" barrel. First three digits of Ser.# is 190, which I believe puts it around 1981. Trigger is gold, and barrel simply identifies it as Model 336. No crossbolt safety. Has hooded front sight, as I believe most Marlins do. Not a mark on it. I've only shot it at 50 yds. so far, with Federal 150 gr. ammo. Holes touch at that distance with a 2-7 old Lyman scope that is on it. I love this rifle. Any info. as to what specific model or configuration would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have a Marauder model, a Texan with a short barrel. Your date would be correct, 1981.

It's not a maurauder. The maurauder was only made in 1964. Most, if not all maurauders, will have a "Z" prefix. It also has a 16 1/4" barrel.

I think yours is a Texan.

The Gun Digest 1981 edition shows that as a 336T, which apparently stands for Texan. See my thread from mid-January "Blue book on a Marlin 336T":

Apparently they were made from 1981 to 1984. Very nice configuration, very well balanced and very fast handling. I missed buying the one I found and have been looking for another.

I have several of the Marlins with the straight stock and 20" barrels. I just happen to like that style better. Marlin did make a few wirh the 18 1/2" barrels because I had one several years ago and like a fool I sold it. I don't know what years they were made, or if there is anything special about them, but they are apparently rare. Yours, and the one I had are the only two I have heard of.

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. I'm kinda partial to this rifle. Thought it wasn't a bad deal at $275.00. I believe she's a keeper. Just can't wait 'till deer season to give her a try.
