Finally looks like I found a good load with them with H 4831 sc at around 2700-2750 fps. I tried 3 other powders before trying H 4831 sc and wish I would have done so sooner lol. What can I expect from them on game, is it too much bullet for a 100 lb blacktail? I know guys use them on bigger animals like elk and moose successfully. I have wanted to try them on spring bear for a couple of years but could never get much for accuracy but that's changed now. Have never used a Berger of any sort but like to try different bullets and get some experience with them.
Thanks in advance.
Gerry.

What twist rifle? I wanted to give them a go in my 270 WSM but Berger lists a 1-8 twist as optimal. Not sure if they would stabilize or I would just not get the optimal ballistic coefficient? I am sure they would not do a deer any good and also should be going slow enough to not turn into a bomb if a shoulder is hit but no guarantee on that.

Mine is a 1 in 9 twist and I'm at about 400 feet above sea level. I knew they might be borderline when it comes to stability but I have not seen any sign of them tipping so far. I did wonder if I would have trouble getting great accuracy because of that but things look good with 53.5 gr H 4831 sc. Their max is 53.9 gr so I'm going to try that to see if it will tighten up even more.

Gerry,
They shoot very well in my 1-10 twist .270 at around 2750 fps. The two ranges I use are in the valley bottom at around 4000' above sea level, and the country goes up (and the air gets thinner) from there.
Haven't tested them on game yet, but have seen a lot of animals taken with other Berger Hunting VLD's in that weight-range, and they've worked fine on animals up to 500 pounds. They'll work fine on a blacktail. Have shot a 200-pound feral goat through the shoulder joint at close range with a 168 Hunting VLD at around 2850 fps from a .30-06, and it snicked right through the bone.

Thanks for the info. I'll find out in the next couple of weeks what they are like on a black bear. We are just coming into prime time now, I'll report back when a bear is down.
