I just got back from shooting my new 9.3x62 and i must say i love it.It's based on a rem 700 action with 20" B-King barrel and a Bell & Carlson stock in Dessert camo.I do have to say-I love the Medallion stock and its texture.Just love it.I mounted my 3-12x56 swarovsky for now for load development and see if i like it,then it will stay on.Right now it shoots them 270gr Speers under a 3/4 inch groups at 109yds.This will be my Whitetail and Blackbear gun.Blackies behold????

The 9,3X62 is a great choice. I would use a smaller scope, however, as one of the attractions of the 9,3X62 is that its a relatively powerful medium bore for medium ranges in a more compact rifle. The big scope isn't needed or desirable, IMO.

I love your rifle! cool I wish I owned it, and you had a better one. wink

I forgot to mention that those 270gr Speers are excellent bullets. I've used them for many years in 9,3X74R combo guns when they were the only game in town and recently in an older 9,3X62 Husqvarna FN action 649.

At 100 years old, the 9,3mm Mauser is still going strong and is still one of the best of the medium bores...no argument!

Must be a deadly rig with those 270 gr bullets. Everything the 35 Whelen is and a bit more.

I wouldn't push those 270gr bullets too hard they are pretty soft. I have had some problems with them breaking up at closer ranges. The 286gr partition is REALLY hard to beat in the 9.3x62. I haven't tried the 250gr accubond or 250 and 286gr barnes or any of the woodlieghs yet but the 286gr partiton has performed flawlessly.

I've to agree with you on the 270gr bullets.I tried them out in my 9.3x64 at appr.2700f/s and they do not want to hold together, hence the use in my shorter barreled 62.Velocity is around 2400f/s and that should be slow enough to give it a bit more penetration,if needed.Although,i will use it ,mostly, for Whitetails and our husky Blackbears.

I had one fail to exit a moose neck at 15 yards a couple years ago. all you could find was bits and pieces of the bullet. Didn't break the neck bone either!

Use 286 partitions or North Forks at 2450-2500 fps. The 9.3x62 is a great low-recoil slammer.

I've had that happen with many bullets of various flavors at close range. What were you shooting and at what velocity...just curious...The Accubonds are not as tough as the 270 Speers from my experience. They do add some measure of flatter shooting to all the 9.3s, however. Noslers are hard to beat.

It's quite interesting to see guys ,who shoot the same bullet out of the same caliber rifle come up with different results.Years ago, when we testet bullets for a Federal Police Agency,we came to the conclusion that depending on the rifling of the firearm, different results were obtained.A firearm with a more prominent protruding rifling causes the bullet to open up more easily than say a polygon barrel, since the former mentioned rifling cuts deeper into a given bullet.Since not all rifles and their rifling are created equal. There has to be a difference in performance of the bullet.I tested 2 243 rifles with equal barrel length and the results were quite astonishing.I do think ,that we have to take that into consideration when choosing bullets.Just like accuracy-it can be,and most of the time ,it is,different from one gun to another.

very nice compact rifle, I'm building one in a Mauser 98 action but with a 23" barrel and will be topped with a 2.5-8x36 L scope

I thought that the Mauser 98k is a perfect choice for the 9.3x62
and the 35 Whelen is great for a Springfield 1903(in progress)

I just got back from a Gunshow and i bought 200 PRVI Partizan bullets in 286gr for $60,-canadian.I am curious on how they will shoot?Supposedly Prvi Partizan copied the 286 gr Lapua Mega with their bullet.I'll be shooting it through Gelatin and find out what they will look like.

I got 100 from Graf & Sons and 100 Graf brass. They, combined with R15 powder, shoot a ragged hole out of my old Husqvarna 649. They seem very soft, but are just fine for 9,3X62 velocities, IMO.

I am going to have to try those PRVI's in my 9.3X62.

Luv2safari,
I have had good luck with RL15 in my 9.3 as well, it is the only powder I use for mine anymore.
