I have a Marlin 336 30-30 made in 1974. It has a small round in lay about 4 inches from the butt of the stock. Can this be removed, and a sling swivel stud installed?

If it's a bullseye, that's their trademark. Don't put a sling stud in it.

Thank you for not changing out the Marlin Bullseye. That is the first indication that Bubba was there. Taking it to your local gunsmith will be the best money you will spend because he has the proper jig to drill with. I know from experience. Thanks...Bill.

Thank you I have a jig for instilling sling swivels, it will be done correctly. I know what you mean about Bubba. This is mt first time to work with a Marlin 336. I have worked with bolt actioms & 10-22 for a long time.

Hi guys,
I have to disagree regarding the bullseye. In at least 3 instances I`ve bought Marlins that had the swivel installed where the bullseye had been. If the home gunsmith [bubba`er] had also used a mag tube type front swivel it was then easy to return the gun to its original appearance by removing the swivel and putting in a new bullseye [2 bux apiece at our local gun shop] I can recall 2 extra plusses #1, you can cut the new bullseye in half and have 2 and #2 the factory almost always puts the hole in the right place [on center] Thanks, Bob

From the Marlin Firearms Company: Marlin Firearms "Frequently Asked Questions" 12. What is the small round black and white dot on the bottom of my Marlin stock? This is the Marlin "Bullseye". This trademark has been used since 1922 on all Marlin walnut buttstocks. Please note that this is not a suitable place to install a swivel for you firearm. Swivels should be mounted approximately 2 inches from the toe of the butt.
