Very practical concept... many here have been building fast twist lightweight 22 cf for years, many have used the 22/250, I have built a lightweight 220 Swift.
The 22Creed seems to be a better mousetrap at this point.
My lwt 22 is way different that any posted on this thread......
220 Swift , #1 contour 1/7.7 twist, Mauser action, maple stock, blind magazine, weighs 7.5lbs all up
The swift is a ballistic twin to the Creedmoor..

This one , also a Swift is more of a medium weight platform with a 24" #3 barrel with a 1/8 twist. about 8.5lbs

I have two, one a bdl and the other a custom stocked thumb hole and a bdl.. The thumbhole was a gift, not my first pick, but nice.. Both are 1-14.. For what I use them for that is fine.. If I rebarrel, I would probably do 1-12.. Went the 1-8 route, not for me...

aalf You are right they work fine. But for me a DBM works much better. Easy and fast to unload and load. My hands aren't in great shape from working with them my entire life and from having frostbite a few times when I was younger. It's cold enough here that I find the DBM much better for me. I wouldn't pass up a nice rifle just because it had BDL bottom metal. I just bought a Kimber 84M 6.5 Creedmoor.

Nice looking rifle you got there!

Just curious, why not go lightweight barrel like a 1 or 2 for a walk around rifle. That's what I did on my 223AI and it is perfect for a walkaround rifle in a McMillan Mtn rifle stock.

Because when I get that shot across the canyon at 700 yards on a big wolf, I want that extra weight to help me settle in and smoke him...

Couldn’t agree more. #2 in a MR is perfect IMO.

We drive deer and I shake like Michael J. Fox so I require some mass up front. A #2 contour carries easily and balances well. Only reason I haven’t bought a Fieldcraft is because I figure it’s not muzzle heavy enough for me to shoot it well.

Agreed! My 223 Pacnor #2 at 22" and a Mtn rfl stock balances like no other rifle!

Pat, that might be my favorite rifle of all the ones you've posted, and that's saying something.

Just fantastic

Parts are started:
Ordered up a 700 SS SA from Midway and a #3 Bartlien 7 twist. Going to flute the barrel chop it at 22 or 23”.

We will see how the pocket book stands after Christmas and see what we can order next.

Took mine out yesterday and dropped a doe at 110 yds with the 88 eld. She ran about 15 yds and piled up. Lots of internal damage. Might be my new favorite rifle
