JG: Yeah, evidently I got the second one.

I have used the .41 dies specfically to bell brass of various rifle rounds around .40 caliber.

Next time you see us in there (we tend to be in at least once a week, sometimes more during "trading" season) say hello! It is always a pleasure to meet fellow rifle loonies.

Talk about rifle loonies: A few years ago I decided I had to have a No.1 in 375 H&H and Capital Sports had one but with fairly plain wood. I called around looking for another one, and Scheels in Billings said they had one with decent wood, so I jumped in the truck and made the drive. Walking up to the rack, I could see the No. 1 on the end had gorgeous wood and just assumed that was the 375, only to be disappointed when it turned out to be a 45-70. The 375 was right next to it and had much plainer wood than the local rifle. I ended up buying both, swapped the butt stocks and sold the 45-70 to a friend. The stock on the 450/400 was very plain also, and I envisioned doing the same thing again, but was able to convince Capital to trade my 375 towards the 450/400 and swap the wood as part of the deal. I paid an extra $15 for "minor fitting" and am plum tickled with the result. My 450/400 has the forend from the 375, the butt stock from the 45-70 and the wood to metal fit is as good as any I've seen. I had better luck with my No.1 in 9.3x74--it had decent wood out of the box.

Jerry, I may end up doing the same thing. Have a 405 with a nice butt which would look real nice on the 450-400.

Then there's the 45-70 that looks like it was sold by Home Depot.......

S.A,

I was wondering if you have taken possession of your .450/400 yet? How long has it been?

Nope, but it should be here in a matter of a few days now. I could have had it much sooner, however, I bought some more Sakos in the US and decided to wait so I could ship them together. Much cheaper that way. I can't wait to see it. I'll put up pics as soon as it arrives.

I talked to the Australian Ruger importer yesterday and he confirms the first shipment of 450/400's will be leaving in a day or so ! and I presume South Africa order also as a mate there is also waiting...now to find some Hornady ammo.

Very interesting round in what looks like a serious thumper/rig!

I'm new to the single shot scene. And from what I've read & seen, I'm liking it allot & think I'll be joining you gentleman on this voyage.

I was first toying with the idea of getting the 9.3x74R/No.1, but now I'm wanting the 450/400 NE 3" more. ha ha ha the funny is, I dare say I will end up with both in the end(grin).
These No.1's look additive?

This 400 NE really looks the goods in what seems to be a fine 200yd slayer.
And from the Hornady video, it also looks like a peach to shoot. Or it looks that way from the video footage(long slow push, rather than the sharp hits I've taken over the years).

How do you men rate this cal/combo now you have your own & used one?
And how does the No.1 stock handle the recoil. Is there any need to float/bedd the fore-end, with maybe a cross-bolt in the stock handle?
Forgive me if this is not the case, as I have NO experience with single shots & the design scene.

I dare say the No.1's need no work out of the box? As they have been one of the single shots that others are judged, from what I've read.

PS-Can they be stoked up in the No.1 action. Heard they are a very strong action?

What sort of ballistics you men getting?

Ok, now THAT was fun!

Had some time today to stop off at the range after work to put the first rounds through my new #1. As I ran a patch through the barrel I looked at the recoil pad thinking "bet I'll have to swap that for a Decelerator...".

Got settled at the bench, fed the chamber with one of those Hornady rounds, and squeezed it off at the 50 yard target.

That's it? That's all the recoil? Wow, this is gonna be fun. I fed the #1 4 more rounds before it got too dark and had to pack up.

Gotta tell ya, this 450/400 caliber has to be the over-40 caliber for the masses. Recoil is no big deal even at the bench, and it's just flat out fun to shoot! grin

I got mine Monday! If the weather holds up,I'll shoot it Friday.I picked it up at Cabelas in Michigan, none left! They are special order with deposits only.I did not see any ammo, but I already had some and my bullet mold came in.
I did notice a new 'soft' recoil pad?Anybody tried it yet?

I was surprised how much lighter in contour the barrel is than my .458 Lott. I'll try to get pics, camera is giving me a little trouble.
