Has anyone ever had an 1886 converted from a .33WCF to a .45-70? If so, I would like to hear details. Thanks

I was thinking that the 33 WCF were light weight, take downs with a pencil style barrel? I am probably all wet here.

Since they have the same rim diameter I would think it doable, however as knivesforme pointed out, many of them (not all) were light weight barrels so a rebore may not work. (I have not measured one) However, I personally wouldn't mess with any original 1886 unless it were bubba'd beyond repair.

It is easily done. 33 barrels are fairly inexpensive so you could get a second 33 barrel to rebore. You could keep the original in case you wanted to put it back like it was.

If you were wanting to replace the stocks with new wood that is true to factory original, where would you get them?

Levers, regarding Precision GunnStock......how much final fitting/ sanding is necessary with these stocks? Can you recommend a really good stock fitter / finisher?

I have original 1886 half or 2/3 m rifles in both calibers.
I would NOT recommend reboring/rechambering unless your 33 WCF rifle is a very poor example.

Don't do it! You will regret it. 45-70s are a dime a dozen with lots of nice modern choices out there. 33's will never be made again.
