Anyone tried the 410 000 buckshot loads?

I'm thinking a little Rossi single shot 410 loaded with this load might be a pretty handy little gun to have around nowdays.

Should work good for two and four legged aggressive "critters"

A single shot .410 doesn't seem ideal for aggressive two or four legged critters. Given a choice I would choose a repeater of larger gauge.

I've always got my Glock 19 on me, but am thinking a 410 might come in handy for a back up.

Doesn't change my way of seeing it.

I know that when it's loaded with birdshot, it's perfect for "no-legged critters."

Not a perfect home defense gun, but if you are just cruising out in the sticks where there might be small game, snakes, or "just maybe" a two-legged reptile, it is very nice to have the buckshot in your pocket, too.

I have my Judge loaded up Federal's 000 buckshot loads. It sits on my nite stand for things that go bump in the nite. It also rides in the pickup on road trips. I've shot it at paper targets----I was impressed with the grouping of the 4 pellets. I know I don't want to be on the receiving end. I use the 2 1/2" shell with 4 pellets-----the 3" shell has 5.

Yep! I know the 410 isn't ideal for defensive use.

I have an 870 police special 12 ga. W/full length mag. Two lever guns, a .357 and a .45 Colt trapper, and a 5.56 semi auto.

So, I'm pretty well set for defensive long guns.

Just "needed" a excuse to buy a single shot 410.

I bought a box of #9 birdshot loads and a box of Hornady critical defense loads for my new 410.

The buttstock holder holds 8 rounds, so I have 4 birdshot on one side and 4 defensive loads on the other.

It's just a fun little shotgun!

Shot my Hornady critical defense loads on paper to see how they hit. (two 35 cal round balls and one .41 cal bullet)

NOT good! At 15 yards, The two round balls were 2" apart, but the 41 cal. bullet wasn't even on my paper plate.

So, I put up a bigger target, and the bullet was on the paper, but 12" low, and it hit sideways!

I'm thinking this load was designed for the Judge, which has rifling to spin the bullet.

Back to the gunshop to pick up more round ball loads.

With low ammo supplies, Thank goodness they have some "in stock"

Bought some round ball loads for my new .410

Got 3" at 15 yards with this three 000 buck load.

That should work!

Out of curiosity I was looking over some of those 000 Buck .410 loads. The velocity on those run from 775 fps to 1225 fps. I'm guessing the milder loads are for the handguns? 775 fps isn't a lot of juice.

Anyone shot any "rifled" slogs through .410?

Just wondering IF they might pattern good enough to be worth trying in my little single shot.

Hate to waist my money if they they won't group.
