I picked up an Excalibur Micro Axe last month. The bolts came with 100 gr tips so I bought some Boltcutter 100 gr broadheads since I used the 150 gr version with my Axiom SP. The Boltcutters shoot 3-4" low so I tried some Laser Strike mechanicals I picked up at Cabela's. They're 2-3" low and right. Before I try another brand I figured I'd ask what you guys are using that are shooting are the same speed - 340 fps.

In my 340 Axe I use Excalibur Quills but change the front insert to a 110 grain brass. I shoot 125 grain Montec fixed blades. I think the heavier setup is a bit quieter and easier on the limbs. I haven't chronographed it and don't really care what the actual speed is. Have shot 2 deer with that setup and both zipped on through and disappeared to parts unknown. I just bought some Rage 125 grain Hypodermics but haven't tried them out yet.

Excalibur Bulldog Matrix 380.
That is an entrance wound, BTW. It was still bubbling when I found the deer.

100 gr Rage 2+ out of a Wicked Ridge Invader. If I run out, I've got a few 100 gr Muzzys laying around that are still good.

Got the 125 gr Slick Trick Crossbow heads today. My first 2 shots were within 1/2" of my field points at 20 & 30 yards. About an inch off at 40 yards. I'm calling that good

About 2 years ago I switched to crossbow from verticle compound. I bought the excaliber matrix 355 and bought excaliber arrows and broadheads. They were ok but then started to play with different products. As most of you probably know , this can get expensive. To resell your old product you dont recoup much of your money. Anyways I settled on 18" Zombie Slayers with a 110gr insert and an18 gr aluminum flat nock. Broadheads are Ramcat 125gr. This set up shoots 1" groups at 20-30-40yards. I had to play with the speed ring on the scope for a bit but is on the money now. Will stay untill a new review on a better product comes along.

I’d have to agree - the one set of limbs I have broken / cracked (Carbon Express Xbox) was from a string jumping a nock. The heavier bolts keep the noise down in my Micro. tmitch - How are you changing out the insert? I didn’t have much success in pulling the factory ones?

I slowly apply heat, be careful not to get too hot and pull out factory insert with needle nose.

I use a 30 watt soldering iron and replace the tip with a piece of threaded rod that screws into the insert. 10-32 I think. After its heated up I unscrew the arrow from the soldering gun and thread it onto a field point locked in a vice and pull it out. Some are tougher than others but I haven’t ruined one yet.

I can say that I have taken more than 100 whitetails using 100gr standard 1" or 1 1/8" magnum SlickTricks using both vertical and TenPoint crossbows. No matter what head you use it's all about location, location, location..
