I have an opportunity to pick up a Winchester model 70,stainless in .375 H&H magnum,CRF, factory Tupperware stock and sights. Trying to decide if it is a bargain ,has only had 20 ads through it. Pictures show it to be in excellent condition, although I have no real need for a big bore it intrigues me. Guy is asking just under $1000 is that a good value? Thanks

I think if you can get it for below $1000 it would be a fair price. I purchased one in 2013 for $750 in similar shape that you describe and felt I got a good deal. In todays market that $750 would be $1000.

That is my only question. Like I said in the other thread, easily worth $1,200.00. I ran across a supergrade classic 375 H&H yesterday, but the shop wanted way too much money for it ($1,800.00)...

The 7 digit stainless classics were never made in the 375 H&H. 2002 last year they were catalogued. 2003 was the switch to 7 digits and 375 H&H stainless is absent from the catalog. If one can get one for $1200 they better jump on it.
Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

That's not a bad deal. Those are great guns. I picked up mine here on the Classifieds a few years ago, seems it was $850 or so. I had it chopped and fluted, NECG irons installed. I re-bedded the Tupperware with Steel Bed. I sorta like this stock, the way it feels and fits. And I don't worry about scratching it. I probably have $1,200 in it by now, would take a good bit more than that for me to turn it loose. They really shoot, very accurate guns. I've posted this one a number of times. Just wanted to give an idea what 21" looks like, It sure does handle better than the OEM 24" heavy barrel. 1.5-6x42 Zeiss Victory worth more than the gun, but you can't shoot what you can't see. I've had the comment from an Africa hunter, what a good rig this would be for Leopards. .375 H&H classic round, Victory scope legendary for low light clarity and definition. I think that's probably right, although I have no plans to hunt Leopards. I need to kill a few WT's with this one. There always seems to be a project or two ahead of that idea. But, who knows, maybe one of these days DF

Karl Kampfeld is one of the best for flutes, etc. Also good for builds, finishes, etc. I've had competing smiths compliment his work. Ya really good especially when yo competition says you good... He can do the chop, crown, fit NECG irons, etc. Nice guy to deal with, prices reasonable, turnaround time not bad. http://www.kampfeldcustom.com/boltfluting0914_008.htmAussiegunwriter, The way my safe is set up, I store bolt guns with bolts open. They take up less room that way. Cocked, but no round, no BOOM... DF

I paid 1200 for a like new 5 digit stainless classic 375HH here on the campfire about 3 maybe 4 months ago. I was happy to pay the 1200 because they don’t pop up all that often and when they do people buy them right away. There was one for sale here for 1350 about a year ago, I hesitated and it sold in less than an hour of being posted.

They’re generally very good, sometimes need tweaking. They have the desirable old style trigger, are generally very accurate. And they aren’t making any more. BACO’s are good but to those preferring New Haven guns, prices will not be going down. Glad I have mine.

Price not going down.
Those NH guns are said by some to be a project in a box, suggesting they all need tweaking. Maybe some truth, but they're good guns, IMO.
I like mine. Some replace the extractor with Williams replacement part, made out of better material. I didn't like the "hot glue" bedding, jerked it all out with pliers, drilled holes to cause the new bedding to trap itself, as bedding doesn't stick very well to Tupperware plastic. Steel Bed is tough, much better than EOM bedding.
The EOM 24" barrel, IMO, is too heavy, but too good a shooter to replace. Chop and flute helps a bunch, really transforms these barrel heavy guns.
They used the same contour with .375, 416 and 458. Of course, the smaller bore left more steel and more weight forward.. Probably not as big an issue with .458.
Overall, a solid rifle, about bullet proof when tweaked to suit.

Three Classic Stainless 375's sold from $2000 to $2300 since Nov. on G.B. Are we talking the same rifle's here? Three year old thread. Classic stainless - New Haven; old style trigger; truck axle barrel. Alaska stainless laminate - BACO, limited edition SHOT special; enclosed moa trigger; more reasonable barrel contour but with dog knot; similar to a p-64 barrel.

The .375 H&H is such a slick feeding round, I don't think I'd AI mine. It'll feed cases as fast as I can cycle it. Yep, cases without bullets. A few extra fps in that round may not be that helpful, IMO. Those USFA "truck axle" barrels do shoot pretty well. Here's a CEB Raptor group, haven't tried Hammer yet. DF

I actually haven’t tried your “cycle drill” with my AI…..may have to try that!
My AI works great with a bullet in the case……and I’m pretty pleased with my 270 grain LRX’s @ 3100 mv, and 3 shot groups running right @ 1/2”.
But, I’d really like to have an all stainless steel Model 70……mine’s a hybrid! 😉 memtb

DF Easily 200 fps with most bullets…..though, I haven’t made a direct comparison in my old H&H since it’s retirement! In looking at load data for the H&H I exceed those numbers pretty good. Though, for liability reasons theirs may be a bit tame…..and my AI loads may be a bit warm! I do my load work only on hotter days (90+ F) allowing the rifle and the loads to reach ambient, though not in direct sunlight....knowing that I’ll be at/near max loads when development is done. My thoughts are, this should keep me in “the safe zone” should I be hunting/shooting on a hot day! That’s just my method, and may not work for everyone! memtb

I saw that it was a three year old thread and I also started a new one in search of this elusive rifle but I noticed a few people on this thread had these rifles so I wanted to start somewhere. And you are correct it is the Alaskan laminate that I am looking for not the classic stainless.

The best way to hunt something up is to post a WTB ad in the classifieds after you've participated here long enough to receive PMs.

I bought my Classic Stainless Model 70 375HH for 869.99 at K-Mart before it went out of business here in Fairbanks. It is a great rifle and would be a heavy favorite for Kodiak.

It’s fun reading these older posts and seeing what changes are happening in the market.
In the last couple of Alaskan gun shows I have visited this month I saw half a dozen pre 64 M70’s going for $600-800 and G series stainless M70’s priced between $1500-2000 !

It’s fun reading these older posts and seeing what changes are happening in the market.
In the last couple of Alaskan gun shows I have visited this month I saw half a dozen pre 64 M70’s going for $600-800 and G series stainless M70’s priced between $1500-2000 ! That is a bit topsy turvy. Go figure. Guess my Pre-64's took a hit, now sorta extra proud of my M-70 SS .375, G series. This market can get pretty fickle. DF Prices also reflect the location . There are a lot of pre64 M70 in Alaska, it is the official state rifle ! And Alaskans really enjoy the stainless G series rifles

But, you'd think that could affect the total market, as guns can be shipped about anywhere in the country. I understand it may cost more, shipping to AK, but if the price gradient is big enough, shipping should take care of itself. DF

I like the G series stainless 375 H&H's. I have two favorites of these, one still in 375 H&H with a different stock, sling stud barrel band, different bottom metal, and barrel cut to 22". The other is a re-barrel to 416 Remington, 22" barrel, barrel band sling stud, and different stock. The 416 barrel is basically the same contour as the factory issue.
The Ruger versions of both calibers has severely limited my field time with these M70's. Though, I do still like the rifles. I have another that I may eventually turn into a 458 Lott.
