Hi. Please forgive me if there is a similiar thread here somewhere.

I bought, what I think, is a great hunting truck. However, it came with crappy 'Continnetal' tires.

What are you guys putting on?

Take a look the pro comp xtreme all terrain pretty good in the mud, ok on the highway and getting about 45,000 out of mine on fords and dodge's, if you catch them right you can get four for the price of three at four wheel parts.

I'm having trouble finding anything in that size. Goodyear wranglers are just coming to the market now.

What size are you looking for?

Do some reading at www.tirerack.com with that said I put a set of bridgestone dueler at revos on my truck around 30,000 miles ago they are e-rated for hauling heavy loads,super tires IMHO and wearing very well so far.coobie

Don't know if they come in that size but I have been pleased with the Cooper ATR's I put on my '02 F-150 after the stock Goodyear tires wore out. Good traction off road and a smooth ride on the road. They won't last as long as Michelins, but they were nearly half the cost.

Take a look at the Toyo tires. If it's a diesel I'd stay away from the Coopers.

I also went with the Bridgestone Revos and have been pleased.

Going through the Tire Rack is a good way to go. While I've not used them for truck tires yet, they set me up with an excellent set of Toyo Proximas on 15" rims for my daily driver for a very reasonable price. They also support Grassroot Motorsports $2007 challenge, making them extra kewl in my book.

Just curious, but is there a problem with Cooper tires that I should know about. I will be needing another set of tires in a few months and have had no problems with mine.

You want to consider putting E rated tires on a diesel due to the weight and the capacity of the truck. D rated tires usually don't hold up as well and can fail under heavy loads.

BFG ATs

I'd have to go with the BFG AT's as well. A buddy of mine had them on his diesel and got 50K out of them, heavy towing as well. Yours being gas should go farther... I think they are a great tire and very capable on and off road. You could go to a closer size, you don't have to match exactly. Costco usually has the better prices, but can be funny with mounting.

2007 f350 with a gas 351? I thought they did away with those years ago.

They don't hold up well to the torque of a diesel, a good tire salesman will tell you that and discourage you from buying them. It's not just because he wants to sell you a more expensive tire. Also when the Coopers get to about 50% treadwear they turn to crap for traction.

Ran them on my K5 Blazer and my F250 gasser and that is what I experienced. I've found that that is what's expected of the Coopers when talking with other Cooper users. I replaced the Coopers with Pro-Comps and am quite pleased with the wear and traction of those tires. It'll be a while before I need tires on the '06 diesel so don't know what will go on that truck when the time comes.

I use toyo a/t's, the oem tires are crap and took them off at 35000 km. this truck is not so good on fuel average about 16.5 mpg cdn or 13 usa gallons. toyo is a good tire, quite and very good traction 50000 mile tread wear out

Nope, three motors choices; 351, V10, diesel.
I've got the 6 speed manual and 3.73 axle. Lots of power for what I use it for.

Are you sure the 351 is available? I think the V8 gasser available in the SuperDuty is the 5.4. I'm pretty sure the metric designnation for the 351 was 5.8.

Checked Fords website. they show a 5.4 V-8, 6.8 V-10, and the 6.4 diesel

better hope it doesnt have the 6.8! I know a guy who gets 12mpg highway.. EMPTY! A 5.4 in a f350 would be pretty much useless IMO. Doesnt have the guts to haul the stuff a 1ton was intended for.

I didn't want the V10. I figured if I needed that kind of power, I needed a diesel, which I don't.

351 is a 5.8. a 5.4 is about 33o cu in. but when you say 351, its not just the displacement, you are refering to an older engine no longer produced.

Shows what I know. Its a 5.4 , for sure. I was told that's the 351. I never did the math nor do I know much about engines. Thanks for fixing my mistake.

Its a great truck(except for the tires) and is perfect for hunting/fishing here in northern Alberta.

You get a F350 with a 5.4 combined with a 4.10 or 4.30 rear end, and there is not much it won't do. It may not get the job done quite as fast as the V10 or the diesel, but it will do the job.

Still have to work harder and suck up just as much fuel. Our 98 f250 has the 5.4 and while its a damn good reliable engine, it never was meant for pulling any heavy loads.

I have an 05 F350 and run 35/12.5/18's in the toyo At's with only a leveling kit on the front spring and no rubbing etc

I think this part of your statement is wrong, "it never was meant for pulling any heavy loads". When pulling heavy loads, it will work hard and suck fuel, but it will do the job. It is certainly not useless.

Find out what your gear ratio's are first!!!

If you put taller tires on normally your effective gr ratio changes, something like this..... 3:73's taller tires effective ratio maybe like a 3:50...

I don't know the real math behind this but taller tires changes things....

The can be a real problem offroading...

The 07's could be 3.73, 4.10, or 4.30. I built mine with a 3.73 for better mileage. I don't pull anything to heavy anyway.

Here's a question for you guys that know this stuff:

Why don't they put a two speed axle in? Why not something like a 3.55 or lower for empty driving and a 4.30 or so for when its heavy? How hard could that be? Its in lots of 'big trucks'.

Most people dont know how to use the 2 speed rearends. We had an old 1 ton 1959 chevy apache with a 16' flatbed and it had the 2 speed rearend. It was a PITA until you learned how to use it and got used to it. And why dont they use them? Just adds more expense to the product.

I wonder if there is an aftermarket two speed?

I would love an F450 with a Cummins and either a 9 or 10 speed. Never use it to it's potential tho.

My Tacoma does everything I really need with the exception of room in the cab.

Those Toyotas are sweet trucks. I would have got one except I wanted a little bigger.
When i bought my F350, it was only $1000 more than the F150(equipped the same) and only $200 more than the F250. I really don't need the 350 for hunting and fishing.
