Have an older new to me Remington model 7 in 260rem. Shoots absolutely amazing for such a lightweight package. Problem is the bolt is can be hard to close chambering a round. Seems to me the extractor is hanging in the rim of the case and will actually trim off a hair size slither of brass of of the case rim while it's trying to go over the lip and get ahold of the case. Is there any thing I can try at home or will I be headed to my local smith?

Pull the bolt and look at the bolt face and check for anything under the extractor or trapped between the extractor and bolt face. Using a magnifying glass will help.

Don't trim it, just polish the sloping face a little till it slides over the rim. Mb

Look first at the ejector. Overloads can easily cause slivers of brass to work into the plunger hole. A very stiff ejector can result in your symptoms. It is a fairly easy fix... but be careful taking the plunger out! It could easily take your eye out!

Cross pin rides in a cut-out in the plunger and a strong spring drives the plunger. I put the bolt in a clear plastic bag to catch the ejector plunger if it gets away while removing.

Mine was doing similar tears ago and the extractor was bent just a bit, smith popped in a new one and hasn't been an issue since.
