I liked most of the ones mentioned so far. It would be impossible for me to pick out 10 favorites, but if I did “Last of the Dog Men” would make my list.
I didn't read every entry but I did not see Randolph Scot. There is NO top 25 Westerns. It has to be a real stinker before i won't watch it.

The Randolph Scott westerns were all B movies with one or two exceptions, but they're still worth watching once, like so many other B westerns. I doubt many would include Randolph Scott westerns among the top ten or even top fifty best westerns ever made.
Best Billy the Kid movie is probably One Eyed Jacks, though it is not accurate and doesn't attempt to be. Sam Peckinpaugh's Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid is a close second.
Not sure what movie you're thinking of, Ethan, but One Eyed Jacks wasn't about Billy the Kid.
Marlon Brando and Karl Maldin play Rio and "Dad" Longworth, a couple of bank robbers. Dad double crosses Rio and Rio goes to prison while Dad becomes sheriff in Monterey, Ca. Rio escapes the Mexican prison and hunts down Dad.
Joe Kidd with Eastwood and Duvall, Warlock with Henry Fonda and Anthony Quinn, Vera Cruz with Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster, Whispering Smith with Alan Ladd and Robert Preston, were all very good westerns.
Lots of good westerns listed here.
I long ago forgot about watching and worrying about the inauthentic use of firearms in flicks. Most writers, directors, actors, and producers knew virtually nothing about firearms in history, other than they went "Bang!"

"Always go straight forward, and if you meet the devil, cut him in two and go between the pieces." (William Sturgis, clipper ship captain, 1830s.)
Open Range was definitely mentioned. One of the great modern Westerns. There was also a Quick and The Dead staring Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe, Sharon Stone, and Leonardo DiCaprio. I liked it. Not sure it belongs in the top 20, though.
Seems I remember the one with Sam Elliot, too. I don't remember much about it, though.
Besides Sam Elliot, it had Kate Capshaw, Matt Clark and Tom Conti....based on a Louis L'Amour book.
I sure as heck don’t remember Sam Elliot being in “The Quick & The Dead” Are y’all sure ???
Based on a Louis L'Amour book of the same title. Book is better.....like most of the time
Another earlier Western movie titled, Unforgiven, with Burt Lancaster, Audie Murphy, Audrey Hepburn, is another excellent movie, and in my opinion, Audie Murphy's best acting performance.
