I have a few old Speer 165 RN's I always felt would've been perfect for it.
I ran across about a half box of those the other day and had the same thought. I've also been tempted to try the Speer 130 grain FN in mine but haven't yet.

Why not split the difference and shoot 165's? The 165 is a good bullet for the caliber. When I was still loading my own my favorite 30 caliber bullet was the 165 grain Nosler Partition in medium capacity cartridges and the 180 NP for the 30 caliber magnum cases. A hard combination to beat.

It is impossible to find suitable 180 grain round nose .308 bullets where I am right now. So I took some .312 Hornady 174 grain round noses I use in my .303 British. Ran them through a .309 Lee sizer and loaded to about 2350 for my 1930 99E. Good accuracy and the bullet is designed to work at this velocity. Problem solved but not without a little tinkering.

I bet a lot of guys wish they had lead and bullet molds along about now.

Diamond Jim.... Are your 180 GR silver tips in hand loads or factory ammo? If reloads would you mind sharing your load? I found a half box of these and thought I'd give em a go.

I bet a lot of guys wish they had lead and bullet molds along about now. Only thing is, the guys that got that short on ammo, probably don't know you have to melt the lead before you can get it in the mold!
I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.
