i have seldom taken advantage of illinois earlier squirrel seasons due to the wicked mosquitos that i encounter...

DEET repellants disolve most gun finishes and leave huge red welts and severe irritation on my hide.... if the choices are mosquitos or deet, i stay home.....

early this summer, i discovered a new repellent type offered by CUTTER, OFF, and other repellent brands... the trade name for the active ingredient is Picaridin...
it will not damage any gun finish or any fabric...

Deet is approved for limited use on children 2 years and older...
Picaridin is aproved for general use on any child older than 2 months...

i'm on my 3rd spray bottle of picaridin repellent... 2 bottles of OFF, 1 bottle of CUTTER.... both brands work very well in keeping mosquitos and biting flies off of me...
i'm sure that they can be sweated off, but i have sweated my nuggies off cutting brush out back and an application of these repellents before i start has been very effective over several hours time....

in my opinion these repellents offer true, effective relief from biting insects with no unwanted side effects..... john w

I find it hard to sweat through deet when it is directly on my skin. I can feel my temp go up after spraying deet on my arms and legs.

I just pulled a 30dollar striper plug outta my bucket that had a glob of deet on it. Peeled the paint and finish right off.

A guy I know if Florida says the thermacell unit works good to keep mosquitos and no-see-ums off if there isn't any wind. I bought one but haven't tried it yet.

I tried out the Thermacell this morning. I could see the vaporrising in the sunlight the mosquitos acted like they were just passing through. The sqeeters weren't bad everyplace and I've seen worse times. Once I left the Thermacell, and went 30 feet away. The Mosquitos got bad.

I really like it. Got 3 squirrels.

Mosquitoes have been few and far between this summer, but last summer I bought a bottle of Cutters Advanced which uses the Picaridin stuff. Has worked well so far. Has an odd smell; not a solvent smell like DEET, but a kind of glue-like smell.
