Whoa, $220.00? I thought $150.00 was kind of high. I am going to have to re-think this idea about spending that much on a receiver sight. By the way, I just returned from a trip to western Montana where part of the time I scouted the area I may be hunting elk in the fall. Not too many forested areas and lot's of open country - potentially long range shooting. The whole idea of taking my ancient Model 95 and bagging an elk really intrigues me, but I think I'll also bring a more modern rifle with a scope, just in case. Cliff Seattle

I know what you mean. $220.00 is an awful lotta cha-ching for an aftermarket receiver sight. Still, I think it would be an excellent idea for you to buy one and report back on whether it's worth the money. That way, I don't have to spend all that bread if it's junk.
That sounds fair--doesn't it? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Lets see, $220 for an after market receiver sight -vs- $???.?? for base, rings and a scope for a bolt action.
Hummmm, yep, sure sounds out of line to me! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
(This response was not intended in a harsh manner, rather just a look at the other side of the coin, OK?)
And have you ever wondered just how many shooters actually use the iron sights that are supplied/provided on some factory rifles given the number of scopes that are mounted. I'd rather have the holes there with filler screws and have to purchase iron sights as an extra cost rather than have to remove them, oh well just my opinion.

Elkslayer,
No offense taken, as I thought about the same thing. However, a small stamped metal bar & sight for $220.00 (not counting the cost of the Smith to mount it) does seem to pale a touch in comparison to the lenses, intricate parts, and technology that goes into a modern scope. Don't get me wrong - all of my rifles are older lever actions for the most part, and my newest scope is a 1950s Weaver K3 on my Model 99, so I prefer the old stuff. I think it may boil down to comparing apples and oranges.
Thanks, Cliff

Here is a picture of my Winchester 1895 TD .405 WCF that I took to Africa for Cape Buffalo. Here in Texas it has taken about everything from Blackbuck to Nilgai. It is off at Mag-na-port for that treatment. That should should tame the muzzle rise and recoil with 400 grain bullets at 2100 fps.

I bought a Browning Mod, 95, 30-06 as a test bed for cast bullet tinkering. I liked it so much I bought a 405 Winchester for the same reason, got several molds, Lyman, (maybe RCBS) got Mountain Molds to make a 350 grain GC that proved wonderful. Found another Browning 95 in 30-06, very cheap for conversion to 375 Whelen, which I'm tinkering with now. With all three the buckhorn sights are awful and the gold bead is too small. I've been lucky enough to find Redfield receiver sights for all three ,never suspecting that finding gunsmiths in Richmond Virginia who are able or willing to drill and tap the rifle for mounting the sights. I did find a young fellow, who has since moved to Maryland to drill and tap the rifle that became the 375 . It seems there are lots of 'parts awappers' that can replace the grips on a S&W 'N' frame on a good ,now call them selves 'gun 'smiths' I've got the 405 at a 'gun smith' who has had it since 7/7/2021. He said I'd have it before hunting season I asked which hunting season, Spring Gobbler? No reply!
