Picked up a 2021 asspro fishing tackle catalog. Salt water gear is fairly high priced compared to similar sized fresh water rods and reels. I could see some size over lap. I have zero knowledge of saltwater fishing tackle. If someone could point out the major differences I'd sure appreciate it....mb

A lot of the gear is built tougher using more stainless steel parts, rod guides and other things more salt resistant.
I go thru the catalogs online and find lures that I think will work well for pike, musky, and lake trout. I generally tweak the lures some but they are defiantly constructed tougher.
One of my favorite musky rigs is the one I use for tarpon, like 44 suggested I rinse/wash it over after the days use. Doing that I haven’t noticed any damage from the saltwater.

The insides gears of freshwater gear is where you will see rust if salt gets inside. Need to flush that. Also rinse the guides

It's supposed to be more rust resistant and the I'd say that it is in varying degrees based on price. A lot of it is also heavier duty for bigger saltwater fish.

IME someone that's doing occasional inshore or surf fishing for smaller species can get by fine with freshwater tackle if as said above it's rinsed off with fresh water after using each day. I've got several Shimano Sienna ($30) at the time, spinning reels and "freshwater" spinning rods that have been used several weeks each year for around ten years for saltwater fishing that still work good as new.

Rust and sand resistant. Otherwise the same. I use both interchangeably but I rinse the snot out of everything and do lube/cleaning type maintenance when called for.
