Eagle 1899,

I too have one on order. I went with the .308. I got the invoice from T/C 2 day's ago. I'm just waiting on the call from my FFL man.
As stated previously, everything is subjective. I like the looks of the ICON. I like different stuff. If, after using the butterknife bolt handle, I find I don't like it, I will be able to switch for a different one offered from T/C.
Weight is not an issue for me. I won't be taking this rifle on a sheep or elk hunt.
I like the ICON because in my opinion it seems to be a well made, quality firearm. Only time will tell the outcome of the ICON. Even Remington, Ruger, and Winchester had to start somewhere.

I suspect Ruger will eventually offer the Hawkeyes in LH if sales of Hawkeyes prove successful and once inventory of current LH MK II's sell off. Mayhap they will expand the chamberings available at that time.
I take it that you're a lefty as well? If so, any recommendations on a lefty rifle in .308?

I share your frustrations being a "lefty " and not much purchase choices. I just recieved 2 Savage left-hand rifles from their "Custom" shop in 260 and 25-06.. I am very pleased with both rifles. Savage or more importantly Effie Sullivan at Savage did an excellent job for me.

With the test tragets provided, the 260 shot 1.3 for 3 shots and the 25-06 shot .4 for 3 shots with factory ammo. grin

If we ever see a "lefty" Icon it will be 3 years away.

I'm considering a Savage as well...I'd rather go with Ruger or Remington...I like the 700 and M77 a lot, but at the same time I'm pretty set on a 7mm/08 or .308... I've heard just about nothing but good things about Savage though, especially the triggers.

Dig me some Savage.

get a stock you like, float, bed, slick the action a little, set the trigger... hunt.

And Smile like heck.

Hmm! I wonder if enthusiasts who buy an Icon to support a different design philosophy could be considered ICONoclasts?

I looked at one; certainly is different. I have a hard time getting enthused over a 9 lb 308....

Sqirrel: Gotta carry it.No big deal walking to a Kansas blind. Ever spend the day at 8-9000 feet in rough country, on foot all day? You'll wish that rifle weighed 7 before the day's over............ grin

I spend my days carrying an M4 that weighs a total of 9 or 10 lbs, as well as about 40 lbs of body armor, so I'll welcome the 9 lbs. grin

Sorry Squirrel, been offline for awhile. I doubt I could do any better finding one than you could ... Myself, I am actually right-handed, left-eye dominant or cross-dominant, so I shoot left-handed. Most of my guns are leverguns. I also have a Remington 7600 in 35 Whelen. I recently took the bolt gun plunge with a Ruger M77 MKII in 30-06 stainless laminate. No doubt about it, as a lefty shooter you will pay a little more to get exactly what you want or just settle for what's out there.

Good luck wink

Very interesting! I'm kinda anxious to see the tactical versions that GAP twists-up. Sounds like yours shoots pretty darn well! Thanks for the first hand info..

Saw one yesterday. Wood walnut stock. Looks a little like the Sako, the checkering and the way it is built resembles the Sako. the bolt is jeweled and smooth. Should be a good one.

I'm very interested in their 7mm/08 or .308 versions, especially if they're offered left handed...about the only other rifle I'm considering right now is a Savage 11GL in the same two chamberings.
